If you found yourself marooned on a deserted island, and you could summon one character from Sesame Street, who would it be?

Seems like an innocent question, but one that took an intense turn when posed by the beloved children’s program on Twitter.

Sesame Street‘s social media team put forward the hypothetical, “You’re stuck on a deserted island and you can pick one of these Sesame Street friends to come with you. Who are you picking and why?” and presented the choices of Grover, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch and Elmo. Read more…

Want to see a musical ‘Sesame Street’ movie with Anne Hathaway?

TwitterFacebook

In celebration of Sesame Street‘s 50th anniversary, the folks behind the upcoming Sesame Street movie have given us a little bit of information about the mysterious, long-in-the-works feature.

Anne Hathaway, who was approached about starring in the film last, has been confirmed to still be involved by writer and director Jonathan Krisel in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

According to Krisel, who has written for Portlandia, Saturday Night Live, and Baskets, the feature-length project will be a musical (classic Sesame Street) in which characters get lost all around New York City and have to make their way back to the titular street. It kind of sounds like it could be a mix between Home Alone 2 and Madagascar, but with Muppets. Read more…

Can kids hear Grover dropping an F-bomb in that viral audio illusion?

TwitterFacebook

At the end of December, Redditor u/schrodert was watching Sesame Street with his daughter, when he thought he heard beloved monster Grover drop an F-bomb.

“Yes, yes that’s a fucking excellent idea!” he seemed to say.

The clip went viral, like the whole Laurel/Yanny debate, even Jimmy Kimmel heard it. But the late show host wanted to know if it was just adults who could hear it. So, he sent his crew to ask a bunch of kids if they could catch a naughty word in the clip.

Some of these kids don’t hear it at all, or hear “sounds like an excellent idea,” but a handful hear the forbidden word — and their reactions are frankly adorable. Read more…

‘Sesame Street’ writer thinks of Bert and Ernie as a ‘loving couple’

TwitterFacebook

The queer fan community have long known that Bert and Ernie were gay Muppets. It’s just taken a little bit longer for the rest of the world to catch up.

In an interview with Queerty, one of Sesame Street‘s original writers, Mark Saltzman, finally confirmed the rumors. According to Saltzman, Bert and Ernie aren’t just gay. He thinks of them as a “loving couple.”

“I remember one time that a column from The San Francisco Chronicle, a preschooler in the city turned to mom and asked ‘are Bert & Ernie lovers?'” Saltzman told Queerty. “And that got passed around, and everyone had their chuckle and went back to it. And I always felt that without a huge agenda, when I was writing Bert & Ernie, they were. I didn’t have any other way to contextualize them. The other thing was, more than one person referred to Arnie [Saltzman’s partner at the time] & I as “Bert & Ernie.” Read more…
