The interracial couple emoji is finally here following a Tinder campaign

TwitterFacebook

Our emoji keyboards are ever-expanding, as the pictograph language continues to evolve and become more and more inclusive of all users.

Up until this point, any emoji featuring two or more people was only been available in the default emoji yellow on iOS. But that’s about to change, and we have dating app Tinder to thank for that.

The Unicode Consortium — the gatekeepers of all emoji — will be adding a range of people-holding-hands emoji with a mix of genders and skin colours, following Tinder’s #representlove campaign.

The interracial couples emoji look like this, and they are pretty damn cute. We got the first look at all 230 emoji coming in 2019 earlier this year, but Unicode is now releasing the final designs, including the new couple emoji.   Read more…

YouPorn launches new app for more discreet mobile viewing

TwitterFacebook

YouPorn is getting in on the app game.

The adult website is launching their own app that says will bring quicker load times, more privacy, and all the YouPorn content you want on your phone without cluttering up your browser history for someone to snoop on.

In a statement on the release of the app, Charlie Hughes, Vice President of YouPorn, said, “Not only will users gain quicker and more convenient access, but most importantly are given an even more secure and private way to explore content using open technologies without needing platform specific app marketplaces or cumbersome side-loading certificates which could make one’s devices less secure.”  Read more…

It’s time to reclaim singledom as a symbol of power

TwitterFacebook

“Are you swiping?” my best friend asks me over breakfast one morning. I gulp down a spoonful of woefully bland porridge and think for a moment about how to reply.

The answer was no, I wasn’t swiping. But in saying so, I was met with a bewildered expression. I’m reluctant to swipe these days, or just to date in general, due to a long, troubling pattern of power imbalances that have occurred in every single relationship I’ve had since I started dating when I was 15.

Now, at age 30, my status as the perennial singleton is firmly established after taking countless protracted hiatuses from dating. Not because I don’t like the idea of being in a couple, but rather because I find dating really hard. Let’s be real, it’s a truth universally acknowledged that dating is plain sailing for literally no one. But, as a woman who dates men, I’ve found that every breed of relationship I’ve ever had — from casual sex to long-term relationships — has felt completely antithetical to the vision of equality I’ve envisaged for my own life. The lack of agency I feel in my love life made me want to remain single just so I could cling on to any semblance of control. Read more…

What will online dating be like in 2030?

TwitterFacebook

In our Love App-tually series, Mashable shines a light into the foggy world of online dating. It is cuffing season after all.

Digital courtship exploded with the rise of the smartphone.

Match and eHarmony laid the online groundwork decades ago, but momentum built after the first iPhone was released in 2007: Grindr was founded two years later, Tinder in 2012, and Bumble in 2014.

These apps, bolstered by location-tracking, swiping, and almighty algorithms, brought the masses to online dating. But as we look to the future, online dating companies have a new problem to tackle.

“I feel like we’ve solved the volume problem,” said Hesam Hosseini, CEO of online dating behemoth Match (Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid, and Plenty of Fish are all owned by Match). “How do you solve the quality part of that volume equation? If we’re going on a lot of dates, great, but are we really on a better path to finding a partner?” Read more…

Sex ed fails teens by ignoring sexting

TwitterFacebook

The internet has changed how kids learn about sex, but sex ed in the classroom still sucks. In Sex Ed 2.0, Mashable explores the state of sex ed and imagines a future where digital innovations are used to teach consent, sex positivity, respect, and responsibility.

When Johanna Burgos asks rooms of teenagers whether they know someone who has sent a nude picture, about 90 percent of the room always raises their hand.

“Whether they’re sending the photo or not, they know someone who is sending the photo,” she says.

Burgos oversees a program that teaches healthy relationships at middle schools in New York City. She uses this story to illustrate one thing: Teenagers need to learn about sexting.  Read more…
