Apropos of nothing, Microsoft founder Bill Gates has decided to share his thoughts on the HBO comedy Silicon Valley.

On Monday, Gates published a new post on his blog — known as GatesNotes (seriously) — about the tech industry satire, which is currently in between seasons. Gates sees Silicon Valley as a rare example of pop culture getting life in the tech world “right.” 

“If you really want to understand how Silicon Valley works today, you should watch the HBO series Silicon Valley,” Gates wrote.

From the fertile mind of Bertram Gilfoyle comes yet another pearl of innovation.

Silicon Valley has been known to foray into the real world with its inventions (see Jian-Yang’s Not-Hotdog app). 

In a recent episode it was revealed that Satanist coder Gilfoyle mines Bitcoin, but only when it exceeds a certain value. To keep track of when the value of Bitcoin dips below or above this value, Gilfoyle has an alert set up which plays a snippet of “You Suffer” by Napalm Death, a death metal band. Read more…

Not since Futurama have we had such excellent binary jokes.

The trailer for Silicon Valley Season 5 has been out for a few weeks not, but it contains a hidden message you still may not have seen.

At one point in the trailer we see antagonist extraordinaire and exploiter of exotic animals Gavin Belson standing in front of a screen displaying binary code.

Hidden in the first few lines is a message, visible if you translate them from binary into English.
