Watch viral gymnast Katelyn Ohashi’s amazing new floor routine

TwitterFacebook

UCLA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi, who went viral back in January for her electrifying floor routine, is back for more.

Ohashi debuted a new floor routine Saturday at the PAC-12 women’s gymnastics championship in West Valley City, Utah. The routine features music from only female artists, including Tina Turner and Janet Jackson — both of whom were featured in her original viral routine — and Beyoncé. (Though music from Michael Jackson appeared in her previous routine, Ohashi chose not to include any here in the wake of Leaving Neverland.)

Unsurprisingly, Ohashi is as joyous and as awe-inspiring to watch as ever. She scored a perfect 10, and UCLA came out on top. Read more…

Barack Obama’s annual March Madness brackets are here … but people just want him to come back

TwitterFacebook

Once again, former president Barack Obama has released his official March Madness brackets for all to see. But the reaction this year has been a little bit different than in years past.

First, though, the picks. Obama has a history of being just okay with his picks — not great, but passable, like most Americans. And this year, once again, there’s nothing particularly controversial about them.

In the Men’s Bracket, his pick of Duke vs. North Carolina, with a Duke championship, probably mirrors a lot of other brackets. There are a few upset picks, particularly of some No. 12 seeds, but even that isn’t that outlandish given how often it occursRead more…

Ben Simmons shouts out Australian legend ‘egg boy’ on his sneakers

TwitterFacebook

The now famous teen who cracked an egg on the head of an Australian politician certainly has some high profile fans.

Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons paid tribute to the 17-year-old kid known as “egg boy,” by writing the teen’s name on his yellow shoes before the game against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday.

The team’s mental performance coach, Paddy Steinfort, posted the image of Simmons’ sneakers in his Instagram story. That’s a pretty awesome shout out.

Competitive Meditation 101: What you need to know about the world’s weirdest sport

TwitterFacebook

March Mindfulness is our new series that examines the explosive growth in mindfulness and meditation technology. It culminates in Mashable’s groundbreaking competitive meditation bracket contest. Because March shouldn’t be all madness.

There are many things I like about Competitive Meditation — not least of which is the name. It’s sure to bring a confused frown or a bemused smile to the face of anyone who hears it for the first time.

Which is fitting for a sport that is at once extremely serious and utterly hilarious. Think of Competitive Meditation as the mental equivalent of a summer softball league. Using a brain-sensing headband, it lets friends and colleagues play for bragging rights over who can keep the coolest head.  Read more…

U.S. women’s soccer team marks International Women’s Day by suing for equal treatment

TwitterFacebook

The U.S. women’s soccer team has a reputation for never giving up. If they happen to concede a goal or two, you can expect them to maximize every chance until they’ve closed the gap or taken the lead.

On International Women’s Day, they showed that fighting mentality off the field when the team’s 28 players sued the U.S. Soccer Federation for “years of ongoing institutionalized gender discrimination,” according to a press release.

The suit is the latest phase in a battle for equality that launched in 2016 when the team’s highest-profile players filed a wage discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The players, including Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, and Carli Lloyd, argued that despite working as hard as — and even outperforming — the U.S. soccer men’s team, they received less compensation.  Read more…

Barstool Sports founder reportedly blames company ‘idiots’ for copyright controversy

In a recent Twitter thread, comedian Miel Bredouw recounted some shady behavior by Barstool Sports’ legal team. In fact, even Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy isn’t trying to defend it, and instead reportedly described it as “moronic,” admitting it, “makes us look like assholes.” According to Bredouw (who backed up her account with screenshots of […]

Mario Balotelli celebrates a goal by immediately posting a video to Instagram

TwitterFacebook

Soccer star Mario Balotelli busted out an impressive way to celebrate his latest goal: by posting a celebratory video to Instagram.

The Marseille star netted a fantastically acrobatic goal in the twelfth minute of his team’s match against Saint-Etienne on Sunday, after which he was handed his phone by a team cameraman posted behind the field’s end line. As Balotelli’s teammates swarmed for a celebration, Balotelli snapped a quick video.

And it didn’t take long to figure out what he was up to as the video quickly appeared on his Instagram feed.
