A new “most-subscribed” channel was finally crowned on YouTube, albeit briefly.

After a nearly half-year long race, internet personality PewDiePie has finally been dethroned as YouTube’s most subscribed channel by Bollywood music video channel T-Series. The video production company surpassed the YouTuber in subscribers for the very first time on Friday, Feb. 22.

However, the India-based T-Series’ reign as the new “most-subscribed” channel on YouTube didn’t last for very long.

“For roughly 8 minutes, as a result of a YouTube audit, T-Series was ahead of PewDiePie (by a max of about 2000 [subscribers]),” a spokesperson with the social media analytics company SocialBlade confirmed in a statement to Mashable. Read more…

This YouTube channel tracks the PewDiePie vs. T-Series subscriber battle

TwitterFacebook

The battle between PewDiePie and T-Series for the “most subscribed” YouTube channel continues, months after a new champion was supposed to be crowned.

The Bollywood music channel T-Series was originally projected to overtake PewDiePie as the most subscribed channel on YouTube in October. However, the online rivalry between the two continues partially thanks to FlareTV, a year-old account airing a nonstop livestream that tracks the subscriber count of both PewDiePie and T-Series’ channels.

Since Sept. 1, 2018, FlareTV’s livestream has helped fan the flames of the subscriber race between supporters of YouTube’s top two channels. Thousands of people are watching the stream at any given time. Read more…

Netflix just keeps on growing.

The streaming media company posted its Q4 earnings for 2018 on Thursday. Netflix shared that it added 29 million paid subscribers for the entirety of the year. That’s 33 percent higher than what the company added the previous year.

In 2017, Netflix added 22 million paid subscribers. This put its total subscriber count at more than 117.5 million. One year later, the service now boasts about 146.5 million subscribers.

When broken down for the fourth quarter alone, Netflix blew past its own projections. The company added 8.8 million total paid memberships worldwide. U.S. subscribers accounted for 1.5 million of them. International subscribers made up the other 7.3 million. Netflix previously estimated it would add 7.6 million new subscribers total last quarter.
