Why protecting your children online matters more than ever before

TwitterFacebook

Take a walk through most modern households and you’ll quickly find a number of devices connected to the internet. Prove us wrong, we’ll wait.

With more and more online gadgets assisting us through the minutiae of our everyday lives (playing music, giving us directions, and even cleaning our houses), we’re constantly logged on. Yet, as we continue to connect, the importance and impact of online safety is becoming an increasingly hot topic — nowadays, Mashable writes about cybersecurity almost daily.

From passwords to privacy, the desire to protect our personal information and data is increasing around the globe — and for good reason. Take Australia, for instance. According to the latest figures from Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, cybercrime is currently estimated to be costing Australians more than $724 million (A$1 billion) each year. Read more…

Business travel survival guide: How and why this entrepreneur refuses to settle

Stacy Garcia, founder of Stacy Garcia Inc., a licensing and design company, travels frequently as part of her job as an entrepreneur and business owner. Her company, which focuses on interior design products, has roots in hospitality design, and today includes a collection of global lifestyle brands and product lines including textiles, carpeting, furniture, and lighting.

Part of Garcia’s success is due to her “never settle” attitude. “When I believe in something, I never settle until I’ve accomplished it,” she says. “I don’t stop just because I’ve heard a few ‘no’s.’ I’ve trained myself to hear ‘not yet’ instead of ‘no.’ This challenge is what has made my journey so meaningful, and so much sweeter when I finally get the ‘yes’ I deserve.” Read more…

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus sagely said that change is the only constant. In modern times, that couldn’t be truer. With the rise of flexible and remote job opportunities, millennials especially tend to live life in flux, making geographical shifts as frequently as job shifts. It follows then that we need more flexible ways to manage our money and our spending habits.

Good news: Bank of America brought that shift to 12 million Bank of America Cash Rewards cardholders who were automatically switched over to the new Bank of America® Cash Rewards credit card. If you weren’t among them, consider the benefits of earning smarter cash back with this new credit card.  Read more…

Customized cash back could be the best thing to happen to millennials’ credit cards

If you don’t have 3-D printed shoes and your own personal emoji, are you even really living? The millennial generation has made customization the new norm — and that’s a good thing. Rather than conform to a one-size-fits-all formula, this generation expects a multitude of choice right at their fingertips, whether it’s shopping online, scrolling through a dating app, or deciding what to order on their lunch app.

Customization has also fueled the rise of smart technology. Innovations like smart thermostats and remote pet monitors give you greater control over your life, with the ultimate goal of making everyday things work more intelligently for you. Of course, this outlook also applies to money. Read more…

5G changes how we work, play, and collaborate

TwitterFacebook

The age of 5G has arrived, and we’re just beginning to see the true potential of 5G revolutionizing how we communicate, collaborate, work, play — essentially how we live in the digital age. With unheard of download speeds and extremely low latency, this next generation of wireless technology is purpose-built to make download lags, streaming glitches, and the dreaded mid-meeting face freeze relics of the past.

In the first article in this series, we turned to experts at Qualcomm Technologies — the inventor of foundational technologies for 5G — to explain these new capabilities and why they’re so exciting. Now it’s time to geek out about some amazing experiences that 5G experts envision, and to speculate on the exciting future scenarios that we’ll owe to 5G.    Read more…

Still DIYing your taxes? Here are some reasons to go to a pro

Most people agree that the fun part of filing your taxes is thinking about how you’ll spend your potential refund—a trip to Bali? A new laptop? Those sweet wireless speakers you’ve been ogling?

Regardless of whether you’ll deposit that money straight into your savings account or use it for some retail therapy, you still need to file your returns on or before the April 15 deadline (unless, you happen to live in Maine or Massachusetts, in which case you have an extra day because of a public holiday, or D.C., where you get until April 17).  Read more…

5G is coming in 2019, and it’s going to change your life

TwitterFacebook

It’s hard to imagine life without smart phones and mobile devices. But it wasn’t until 3G that smart phones began to resemble the user experience now so ingrained in our daily lives. Since then, faster network speeds have been one of key enablers of the creation and widespread use of cloud technology enabling transformative services like ride-sharing apps, HD entertainment, and video calls that have become mainstream.

While 3G and 4G powered these services, 5G represents another connectivity leap beginning this year.

It is envisioned – per ITU-R’s IMT-2020 requirements — to support blazing-fast speeds of up to 20 Gbps, low latency as low as 1 millisecond, and 100x more capacity as compared to 4G, 5G is setting the stage for immediate improvements to existing experiences as well as the development of new, yet-to-be-imagined technological advancements.  Read more…
