People in the U.S. and Canada can now order a Tesla Model 3 without a reservation

North American buyers looking for a mid-sized electric sedan donning a “T” sign, rejoice: Tesla has opened up orders for its Model 3 electric car for everyone in the U.S. and Canada. 

Until now, buyers had to cash out a $1,000 fee to reserve their spot in line for the Model 3, but — as reported by Electrek — they can now go ahead to Tesla’s website and order the car without a reservation. 

Buyers can currently only order three variants of the car: the $49,000 rear-wheel drive version, the $53,000 dual-motor all-wheel drive version (both of which include a long-range battery and premium interior trim), and the $64,000 Performance version of the latter.  Read more…

Elon Musk says quickest Tesla Model 3 will go from 0 to 60mph in 3.5 seconds

Tesla’s Model 3 may be slow out of the factory, but the top model will be quick on the road. 

That’s according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who tweeted some performance figures for the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive, performance version of the Model 3, and they’re pretty darn impressive. 

That particular variant of the car will go from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, with a 155mph top speed and a 310 mile range.

Even if Tesla faces federal labor complaints for unfair workplace practices and has been called out for workplace injuries, tons of people want to work at the company.

Job interest was strong at the Bay Area-based car maker — in 2017 more than 500,000 job seekers applied to the company, LinkedIn data released Tuesday shows. Tesla employs more than 37,000 people. The National Labor Relations Board accused Tesla of intimidating employees who wanted to unionize last year. Tesla also came under fire in 2017 for workplace injuries

To the dismay of electric-vehicle customers, delivery dates for some customers who ordered Tesla’s Model 3 all-electric sedan have been pushed back — again

Refreshingly, on Tesla’s Q4 earnings call Wednesday, CEO Elon Musk was contrite, and transparent about the cause of the delay.

“While there were challenges associated with Model 3 ramp, we were in a deeper level of hell than we expected,” Musk said. “Still a few levels deeper than we’d like to be, but swiftly exiting, I think.”
