This wireless charger is made specially for the Tesla Model 3

Tesla certainly has big ambitions for its sleek all-electric vehicles, though these plans don’t (yet) include wireless chargers.

But, come April, a group of engineers say they will launch a wireless charging pad that fits seamlessly into the Tesla Model 3, the electric vehicle company’s first mass-market offering — and the vehicle the company’s future is balanced upon.

Tesla Wireless Pad is marketing their $99 product as something Tesla’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen, “forgot” to include below the Model 3’s touch screen.    Read more…

Tesla responds to fresh reports of Model 3 production issues

Tesla’s Model 3 EV delays are well-known, including in the company’s own earnings report and quarterly delivery numbers. A fresh report from CNBC on Thursday claimed that Model 3 production was even more delayed than it appeared, with specific continued issues around battery manufacturing.
CNBC also suggested that the company is “not close” to mass-production of the… Read More

Elon Musk will get nothing if Tesla fails, almost everything if it succeeds

TwitterFacebook

Billionaire Elon Musk‘s future compensation from Tesla is now completely dependent upon the electric car company’s future success.

Under a new 10-year plan announced on Tuesday, the Tesla CEO will henceforth receive $0 in salary. Instead, Musk will be rewarded with Tesla stock — but only if 12 specific “operational milestones” are met.

“Elon will receive no guaranteed compensation of any kind – no salary, no cash bonuses, and no equity that vests simply by the passage of time,” Tesla’s statement reads.  Read more…

Automotive expert Bob Lutz suggests buying a Tesla before it goes out of business

TwitterFacebook

Tesla might sell more all-electric vehicles than any other car manufacturer in the U.S., but automotive industry veteran Bob Lutz warns the company could soon go broke.

The 85-year old Lutz’s candid thoughts were reported last week by The Los Angeles Times as the former Vice Chairman of General Motors spoke to a group of vintage car collectors.

In Lutz’s view, Tesla’s vehicles — like its high-speed Model S sedan — could soon become valuable collector’s items when Tesla’s business model fails. Lutz apparently believes Tesla “hasn’t figured out the revenues have to be greater than costs … when you are perennially running out of cash you are just not running a good automobile company.” Read more…

Elon Musk says Model 3 owners will “be able to do pretty much anything” via voice

The Tesla Model 3 might be off to a slower production start than the company would’ve liked, but there are big improvements coming for the vehicle once Tesla gets on top of its assembly backlog. Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a customer question on Twitter (via Business Insider) regarding additional voice control options with an affirmation that indeed, plenty more voice-enabled… Read More

Tesla made this feature to quell concerns about becoming stranded in the middle of nowhere

TwitterFacebook

Tesla’s latest feature doesn’t even require owning one of its vehicles.

The electric car company today launched an online trip planning tool that shows people where they can drive around the U.S. in a Tesla.

Although anyone is free to explore the tool, it’s designed for prospective Tesla customers — perhaps those concerned about running out of battery life while stranded on a lonely, windswept New Mexican highway during monsoon season. Tesla owners already have this specialized navigation tool in their cars, but now, it’s being made available to everyone on the website.

Tesla made 2,425 Model 3s in Q4 2017, aims to make 2,500 weekly by end of Q1 2018

Tesla produced a lot more Model 3 cars during the last quarter of 2017 than it did during Q3: it produced 2,425 cars during the quarter, adding to its production total of 23,565 vehicles overall, including Model S and Model X vehicles. That’s a significant increase from the 260 it made in Q3 last year, but still off its expected pace. Read More

Hidden message in Tesla Model 3 shows Elon Musk is proud of his team

TwitterFacebook

Although he’s described the manufacturing process as “production hell,” Elon Musk is apparently quite pleased with the outcome of the Tesla Model 3, his company’s newest and most affordable electric vehicle.

The Model 3 is the first truly affordable (i.e. about $35,000) electric sports sedan from Tesla, one that’s significantly smaller and cheaper than the high-speed luxury Model X and Model S vehicles.

After a series of well-publicized production setbacks, the first Model 3s are now rolling out to consumers (as opposed to just Tesla employees), and the auto blog Electrek has found an Easter egg — or hidden message — in the car’s software. Read more…

Tesla had a rocky year, but owners are still extremely satisfied with their cars

TwitterFacebook

Tesla is currently mired in “production hell,” but owners are still extremely satisfied with their brand new all-electric vehicles.

In Consumer Reports’ 2017 Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey, the popular review publication found Tesla topped the vehicle satisfaction survey — for the third straight year.

Consumer Reports says the satisfaction score is “based on whether an owner says he or she would buy the same car again” and “measures whether a car lives up to expectations.” Additionally, survey responders rate things like driving experience, comfort, and climate systems. Half a million surveys were collected.  Read more…
