Netflix’s first dating show pretends it’s not trash. It is indeed trash.

TwitterFacebook

When it comes to reality dating shows, I’m an old-fashioned girl. Give me a Honeymoon Suite, a few dozen helicopters, geysers of champagne, and as many near fist fights as you can fit into an hour time slot — that’s just romance!

This Valentine’s Day, however, Netflix’s first stab at the dating game, titled Dating Around, attempts to sell all of us on a new approach to the tried-and-true format, by replacing the typical Bachelor-esque rotation of suitors and lavish date cards with an intimate look at one-on-one meet ups in New York City. Netflix’s mission to take “an honest and compelling look at the real world of dating” is clear. And they achieve it… to a point. Read more…

How to watch ‘The Bachelor’ live online

TwitterFacebook

You know a show is good when every finale is “the most shocking yet” and every season is “the most dramatic in history.”

The ultimate guilty pleasure that is The Bachelor is so corny-in-a-good-way, we actually look forward to Mondays. Every episode, finale, and season are that intense for devoted superfans, even if Chris Harrison is paid to exaggerate in those narrations.

There’s just something so fun about drinking while watching men and women cry over a person they just met. Haters can hate — that’s more wine for us.

Any veteran member of Bachelor Nation knows that missing an episode is comparable to the pain of being sent home on a two-on-one. When watching ABC via cable isn’t an option, there are streaming services that have your back — because reading spoiler live tweets just isn’t an option. Read more…

Minnesota politician writes bill to ban ‘Bachelor’ star Arie from the state

TwitterFacebook

After the shocking conclusion of the 22nd season of The Bachelor, the titular bachelor Arie Luyendyk, Jr. has drawn some heavy criticisms for how he handled the whole pick-who-he-wants-to-marry thing.

Arie handled it so poorly, in fact, that one of his own state politicians drafted up a bill to ban him from the state of Minnesota (Becca K.’s home state). Minnesota Representative Drew Christensen took to Twitter to announce that, with enough support, he’d write such a bill.

If this gets a thousand retweets I’ll author a bill banning Arie from Minnesota#TheBachelor #PriorLakeLakers

Why watching ‘The Bachelor’ via Twitter is better than the real thing

TwitterFacebook

Confession: I’ve never seen a single episode of The Bachelor.

I’ve come to this life decision for a few reasons:

  1. I’m generally bad at keeping up with TV, which is time consuming. I prefer to spend the minutes I have doing things like catching horses in The Legend of Zelda and giving them dumb names. (To each their own, ya know.)

  2. I think the greatest reality TV show of all time is VH1’s Charm School (a televised manners school for the contestants of VH1’s own slate of dating shows, featuring commandments like “thou shall show some class,” and — I kid you not — Mo’Nique, Sharon Osborne, and Ricky Lake as its headmistresses). 7 things I learned as a British person watching ‘The Bachelor’

TwitterFacebook

We British folk do not like feeling left out.

Alas, not every popular U.S. show makes its way across the pond and onto our screensThe Bachelor is one such show that inexplicably has never graced UK screens. And, yes, we do feel decidedly left out of your Bachelor brackets and viewing parties.

As an Americanophile with lots of American friends, I wanted to be a part of this cool clique with a matter of extreme urgency.

So, it relieved me greatly when my my best friend — an American living in London — urged our Anglo-American friend group to watch this supposed pillar of her culture (her words, not mine). Read more…
