‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ will conclude with a concert special

TwitterFacebook

It wouldn’t be a fitting sendoff for The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend without a gratuitous karaoke moment. Following the series finale on April 5, The CW will air “Yes, It’s Really Us Singing: The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Concert Special.”

Per a statement in TV Line, the special will include “incredible staging, multimedia visuals and a live band and orchestra.” Also, our tears!

Series creator Rachel Bloom and several co-stars led a multi-city concert tour this summer, featuring pared down songs and dances from the show, delighting crowds of the show’s avid fans (including some on this very team). Read more…

Glorious new ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ intro is what this show is all about

TwitterFacebook

In what is simultaneously the most exciting and saddest turn of events, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is back on The CW right now for its final season. And on Friday, the fourth season’s second episode introduced an all-new theme song.

For those who might be in the dark: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is an underwatched masterpiece. It’s a musical comedy — something we don’t see too often on TV — that follows the exploits of a young lawyer named Rebecca Bunch.

The story is a tough one to sum up. In the very first episode, Rebecca runs into an old flame on the streets of New York City, then proceeds to move to his hometown on a whim. The unfolding story justifies this apparent deeply problematic life choice by painting Rebecca as a complex individual who’s defined by much, much more than this guy she once crushed on. Read more…

First look at Ruby Rose as The CW’s Batwoman is pretty perfect

TwitterFacebook

In August, we learned that Ruby Rose will be The CW’s Batwoman. Now we have our first look at Kate Kane’s costumed alter ego.

Let’s skip the preamble. Take a look for yourself:

Ruby Rose as Batwoman, from The CW's upcoming crossover event and planned 2019 standalone series.

Rose, whose casting was announced in August, joins The CW’s DC Comics universe in December as a bunch of other ongoing series — Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl — come together in a crossover event. The network is also planning a standalone Batwoman TV series for 2019.

The Kate Kane character is canonically lesbian in the comics, and her TV counterpart will be the same. Producers sought out an actor with the same sexuality as the character, and Rose — an out Australian star whose credits include Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, John Wick: Chapter 2, and Pitch Perfect 3 — turned out to be the perfect choice. DC confirms a huge ‘Superman’ character will appear in its crossover event

TwitterFacebook

Super news, Superman fans. Not only is Tyler Hoechlin returning to The CW for their December crossover event, but he’ll also be joined by an old flame.

Yep: The official DC Comics Twitter account announced on Wednesday that Lois Lane will also be making an appearance.

“Ready for this power couple to make their #DCTV appearance?” they wrote on Twitter.

JUST ANNOUNCED: actor @TylerHoechlin returns to @TheCW as Superman in this year’s #DCTV crossover event! And he’ll be joined by none other than … LOIS LANE! Ready for this power couple to make their #DCTV debut? pic.twitter.com/9NIdA2AdLF

‘Jane the Virgin’ creator explains how to write the perfect rom-com moment

TwitterFacebook

It’s Summer Lovin’ Week here at Mashable, which means things are getting steamy. In honor of the release of Crazy Rich Asians, we’re celebrating onscreen love and romance, looking at everything from our favorite fictional couples to how Hollywood’s love stories are evolving. Think of it as our love letter to, well, love.

When one hears the phrase “romantic comedy,” chances are likely that the first reference to follow is a movie. Romance has always been the work of film and of literature before it. In TV, it can deployed on a whim as a plot device, a way to force characters together or apart in order to sustain conflict for an uncertain episode run. Read more…

Meanwhile, Gina Rodriguez used ‘Jane the Virgin’ funds to send an immigrant kid to college

While the government remains complicit in a massive human rights violation along U.S. borders, at least one person in Hollywood is trying to make life better for immigrants.

Hearing a lot about ‘Jane the Virgin?’ Here’s how to watch

TwitterFacebook

If you’re suddenly seeing a lot of #content and online freakouts about CW’s Jane the Virgin, it’s not just because of a shocking Season 4 finale – it’s because Jane is and has been one of TV’s best shows since its inception in 2014.

And the great news for you is that it’s at your fingertips.

First off, a quick recap: Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) is 23 and waiting until marriage to have sex. When we meet her, she’s dating dashing detective Michael Cordero (Brett Dier), but then becomes accidentally artificially inseminated with the sperm of Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) due to a mixup at the gynecologist’s office. The cast of ‘Jane the Virgin’ was just as blown away by that twist as we all are

TwitterFacebook

Jane the Virgin Twitter went WILD on Friday night. Spoilers ahead.

The show’s fourth season ended with a major reveal: Michael Cordero, a character that’s been dead since just before a time jump skipped the story ahead by three years back in Season 3.

So for Jane — who was married to Michael — and the people in her orbit, they’ve all lived on for the past four or five years in TV time believing this man is dead. Then he turned up in the final moments of Season 4.

We still don’t know what happened or how this believed-dead man is actually alive. Season 5 will presumably clear that up. For now, you’ll have to live with the incredible reaction on social media. Starting with a post from showrunner Jennie Urman offering a behind the scenes look at the cast learning that Michael actor Brett Dier was coming back. Read more…

If the CW doesn’t renew ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ and ‘Jane the Virgin’ we lose all hope in the world

TwitterFacebook

It’s March Madness time for TV fans. Of course I don’t mean basketball; I mean the nail-biting agony of waiting for networks to renew your favorite shows. This is the fourth year in a row of that special hell for Jane the Virgin viewers, and the third for a dangerously small but fiercely dedicated Crazy Ex-Girlfriend fans.

And not that my personal opinion has any effect on these decisions, but if I lose either of these shows I will literally lose my shit.

A decade ago, the CW was where you went for guilty pleasures – your O.C.s and your Everwoods – and Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend are treated as that, in large part. But something happened in the past decade which was that CW – in addition to programming shows that were enjoyable, addictive, and unlike anything on other networks – made some really freaking good TV.
