T-Mobile pledges unlimited 5G, aims at first half of 2019

BARCELONA—Neville Ray always gives it to me straight. T-Mobile’s CTO has been struggling with when the company’s 5G network is going to launch, giving some mixed signals that led to some confusion.

“We’d like to do something in the first half [of 2019],” Ray said. “We’re still trialing and experimenting.”

The reason for the date confusion has to do with spectrum licenses and chipset availability. During the first half of the year, the only cell phone chips available won’t support T-Mobile’s long-range 600MHz network. But they will support its limited 28GHz, short-range millimeter-wave spectrum holdings. Read more…

How 6 trailblazing youth teams are changing the world’s tomorrow

TwitterFacebook

Back in March, T-Mobile and their partner Ashoka set out on a nationwide search with one mission in mind: find and support trailblazing young adults who are thinking outside the box to enact lasting change in their communities. Fast-forward six months and over 330 submissions, and a handful of unbelievable changemakers have been chosen as the winners of this year’s T-Mobile Changemaker Challenge

Each of the 6 selected Changemaker teams have exceeded expectations and created organizations that will not only make a difference in their own communities, but also have the potential to reach and help millions around the globe. Their unbridled determination to make the world a better place and offer assistance to those in need is beyond admirable, made even more impressive by the fact that most of them are still teenagers.  Read more…

The OnePlus 6T is coming to T-Mobile stores, but it also supports Verizon

TwitterFacebook

The OnePlus 6T is finally here and not only is it glorious — the screen’s larger with a smaller notch and there’s a fingerprint sensor underneath the display — but it comes with two arguably more important milestones (for Americans at least): You can buy the 6T from T-Mobile and the phone works on Verizon.

At long last, OnePlus is breaking into the U.S. with retail presence that’ll put its devices in front of more potential customers, many of whom are probably unfamiliar with the brand. Supporting Verizon is a equally as significant because it’s the first time a OnePlus phone will work on America’s largest wireless network. Read more…

T-Mobile beefs up its unlimited data plans with 70 more countries covered

TwitterFacebook

The wireless carrier wars are continuing to heat up, this time internationally.

Today, T-Mobile announced it’s expanding it’s Unlimited plan benefits by adding 70 more countries where customers get unlimited data (albeit slow 2G data speeds). This brings the total to 210 countries or destinations for T-Mobile One and legacy plan customers with Simple Global.

Before you go celebrating the new coverage areas, it’s important to note that in these countries, customers will not get access to free high-speed 4G LTE data, but rather unlimited data at 128kbps (aka 2G). So yes, this is a slow network, but it’s better than nothing. Customers also get unlimited texts in these locations for free. Making phone calls internationally on T-Mobile will cost 25 cents a minute. With this change, there are no additional costs to customers either. Read more…
