Here to make you cry in public is another photo of Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers in the upcoming film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

The image, released today by Sony Pictures in honor of what would have been Fred Rogers’ 91st birthday, depicts Hanks in his full Rogers attire, tossing a dress shoe in the air.

Fans of the original series will remember this as Rogers’ classic changing into sneakers bit, a moment that accompanied Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood‘s opening theme song.

Directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood tells the story of the real-life friendship between Rogers and journalist Tom Junod — played in the film by The Americans star Matthew Rhys. Read more…

Tom Hanks has been pegged to play the inimitable Mr. Rogers in a biopic titled You Are My Friend, Variety reported Monday.

You Are My Friend is inspired by a part of the life of children’s TV icon Fred Rogers and his relationship with journalist Tom Junod, who wrote a profile of Rogers for Esquire in 1998. Hanks will play Rogers and the movie will be directed by Diary of a Teenage Girl director Marielle Heller.

“As a mother, I am so inspired by the teachings of Fred Rogers and as a human I am in awe of his life’s work,” Heller told Variety. “I can’t wait to bring his story to the public and be a part of such a thoughtful, smart group of people who are all coming together to make this film, which truly feels to me like an antidote to our very fractured culture.” Read more…

If ever there’s a wedding happening in Central Park, an event that needs some added martinis or just generally something that requires somebody to be adorable, you can pretty much count on Tom Hanks to deliver.

If you can somehow make the simple act of looking at a stamp awesome, you know you’ve got it made. Read more…

Arya Stark’s list is a nightmare: no matter how many people she kills, the damn list just keeps getting longer.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, Maisie Williams described an unusual request she often gets from Game of Thrones fans.

“They want me to recite the names, but then add their name,” explains Williams in the clip.

Before long some ominous music is playing, Williams is staring dead into the camera, and Graham Norton — along with fellow guests Anthony Joshua and Tom Hanks — have all been added. Read more…

Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks should win Oscars for their impressions of each other

TwitterFacebook

Hey, did you know Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are good at acting?

Here’s even more proof of their chops. The two pals, who are currently promoting The Post, unveiled some extremely solid impressions of each other’s most iconic characters on Tuesday’s episode of Ellen.

We’re talking Streep as Forrest Gump. Hanks as Margaret Thatcher. Streep as Woody from Toy Story. A delightfully icy Hanks as Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada.

Let’s be honest — most talk show appearances are extremely boring, but these are great. Are there, like, talk show Oscars we can give these two or something? It seems like they need more awards. Read more…
