Twitter’s latest test changes ‘Retweet with Comment’ so it looks more like a Reply

Twitter’s new prototype testing program isn’t the only way it’s working to fix conversations on its site. The company confirmed it’s currently running another public-facing test focused on making Twitter “more conversational” – but this time with Retweets instead of Replies. The test involves using a thin line to connect a quote-style retweet to the […]

Moon-bound billionaire supplants nugget lover’s most retweeted tweet

A Japanese billionaire who’s paying Elon Musk to fly him around the Moon, assuming all goes to plan with SpaceX’s giant metal phallus, has bought himself a rather different ride in the meanwhile. The BBC reports that Yusaku Maezawa has elbowed aside nugget-loving U.S. teen, Carter Wilkerson, to bag the title of most retweeted tweet […]

Stephen Colbert has strong words after Trump’s ’emergy’ tweet

TwitterFacebook

The President of the United States has once again tweeted up a storm without stopping to do a quick spell check.

In a tweet about a “caravan” of 7,000 migrants from Central America travelling towards the U.S. border, Trump declared it a “National Emergy,” while also stating that “Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in” — something that has not been documented

Stephen Colbert on The Late Show called out Trump for his spelling and his general fear-mongering around the topic of migration.

“He’s just stuffing all the fears into one burrito of doom,” Colbert said.

The word “emergy” is actually defined as “the total energy used in the life cycle of some product,” but we doubt that was what the President was talking about.  Read more…

Twitter: All emojis are now equal, character-count wise

TwitterFacebook

In an effort to level the playing field, Twitter is changing how emojis are viewed on its platform.

In a post over on the company’s developer forum, Twitter announced that, moving forward, every emoji will be counted as the same number of characters toward your tweet’s 280-character count. All emojis regardless of gender, race, eggplant, or flag will count as a total of two characters.

It may seem like a small change, but due to how Unicode, the organization that ensures emoji encoding is consistent across platforms, rendered certain emojis characteristics like gender and race in an emoji could sometimes eat up multiple characters. And as we know, in a tweet, every character counts. Read more…

Twitter puts Infowars’ Alex Jones in the ‘read-only’ sin bin for 7 days

Twitter has finally taken action against Infowars creator Alex Jones, but it isn’t what you might think. While Apple, Facebook, Google/YouTube, Spotify and many others have removed Jones and his conspiracy-peddling organization Infowars from their platforms, Twitter has remained unmoved with its claim that Jones hasn’t violated rules on its platform. That was helped in […]

Elon Musk explains that bizarre earnings call in an erratic tweetstorm

TwitterFacebook

Elon Musk has been acting strange lately — but he swears it’s all for a legitimate reason.

The embattled Tesla CEO clarified his remarks on the latest Tesla earnings call in a Friday morning tweetstorm, explaining why he dismissed two critical questions from analysts by calling them “boring” and “boneheaded.” Tesla shares to lost more than five percent after the call.

First, it’s important to know that Tesla is the most shorted (meaning most bet against) stock on the market & has been for a while https://t.co/srEp1tf6ZU

The 2 questioners I ignored on the Q1 call are sell-side analysts who represent a short seller thesis, not investors

‘Black Panther’ was so exciting Donald Glover actually tweeted about it

TwitterFacebook

Donald Glover: actor, writer, musician, and tantalisingly infrequent tweeter.

Donald Glover attended the Black Panther premiere on Monday night, and has added his voice to the overwhelmingly positive reception of the film.

We’ve uploaded a screenshot of the tweet because Glover tends to delete tweets after posting them. This included, he has totalled nineteen tweets since joining in 2009.

That’s how big a deal this is.

You’re BACK?!!

trump became president the same year people started eating tide pods

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) January 15, 2018

Yep: 2017 will forever be known as both the year that Trump was sworn into office and the year some people started seriously considering ingesting those colourful little laundry detergent bubbles (please, please don’t do this, btw). Read more…
