When Facebook started off it was essentially an online yearbook based entirely on where you went to college — you could only log in if you had a .edu email address.

In the intervening 14 years the social media platform has changed the digital landscape (to put it mildly), acquired other networks like Instagram, and moved far from its university-based networks. But now Instagram is considering a feature very similar to Facebook’s early days.

A new feature reportedly being tested allows student ‘grammers to join networks or special communities based on their school affiliation. Read more…

St. Louis University in Missouri is equipping all its dorm rooms — more than 2,300 of them — with Amazon Echo Dots that are customized to SLU-specific questions: sports, concerts, speakers on campus, and other collegiate activities.

This is the first university campus to implement personal smart speakers (other higher education institutions like Arizona State University have put devices in shared student spaces), but this is really part of a greater trend of smart speakers taking over communal areas. Read more…

Cougars are something you wouldn’t want to see roaming around your school campus, or would you?

Southern Oregon University sent out a warning recently about cougar sightings in the area, urging students to stay safe. But the response they got was definitely not the one intended.

Elections can be tumultuous and divisive at times, but Carlton the cat may be the voice of unity that we can all get behind. 

This campaign poster, shared by redditor Ynaffit96, announces Carlton’s bid for a seat on the University Board of Directors.

According to one of the comments, this university is Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Carlton lives around the area and likes to hang around campus, enjoying the attention of students — though he’s not an official therapy animal.
