Putin and Saudi Crown Prince got real bro-y at G20 and it’s weirding people out

TwitterFacebook

It’s G20 Summit season again, folks, which means it’s time for a whole lot of handshakes.

On Friday, leaders from around the world gathered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to discuss global issues, and two close pals — who also happen to be some of the world’s most controversial leaders — shared a very memorable handshake.

Right before the Russian president Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman took their seats next to each other, cameras captured them saying hello, grinning widely, and engaging in quite the shake. Seriously… it looks like the stuff of exclusive BFFs.

Both Putin and the Crown Prince have been accused of having journalists killed, and both leaders have made negative headlines in the United States recently. Read more…

The Putin playing the piano meme is a source of constant joy

TwitterFacebook

You can always count on the internet to concoct a beautiful meme — especially one that involves a widely disliked world leader.

Russian president Vladimir Putin with his shirtless horseback riding photos and likeness to Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort has always been ripe for internet fodder. And yet it appears we have not had enough because a popular Putin meme is now resurfacing.

An old video of Putin playing the piano has been newly edited to make it seem as if he’s playing Vanessa Carlton’s “One Thousand Miles.” Read more…

Did the White House delete a key question from Trump’s press conference with Putin?

TwitterFacebook

It’s been more than a week since Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held a joint press conference in Helsinki, Finland, but new areas of concern keep on springing up.

On Tuesday night, for instance, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow called attention to the fact that it appears the official White House video of the event omits one key question from Reuters reporter Jeff Mason, to which Putin gave a controversial response.

During the press conference, Mason asked Putin, “Did you want President Trump to win the election and did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?” Read more…

Stephen King uses a George Orwell quote to destroy Trump and Putin

TwitterFacebook

When it comes to taking down Trump on Twitter, Stephen King regularly employs his full bag of writer’s tricks to make sure the task is carried out as efficiently as possible.

Sometimes, though, all he needs is a well-placed quote.

Following Trump and Putin’s summit in Helsinki earlier this week, the horror master took to Twitter to quote George Orwell.

George Orwell on Trump and Putin, in 1945: “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

Trump said he had ‘full faith in our intelligence agencies’ and then the lights went out

TwitterFacebook

One day after Donald Trump sided with Vladimir Putin regarding Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, the official president of Treason™ tried to backtrack, saying he had “full faith in our intelligence agencies.”

Then all the lights in the room went out!

“Whoops, they just turned out the lights,” Trump said. “That must be the intelligence agents.”

It’s unclear what caused the momentary blackout, (Someone backing into the light switch? A brief power outage due the rain in D.C. today? A patriotic ghost?). But it was certainly some on-the-nose pathetic fallacy. One of those scenarios that, if you pitched it for a movie scene, you’d probably be asked to “tone it down a little.” Read more…

Even Fox News is rebuking Trump over his meeting with Putin

TwitterFacebook

Much of the nation is still reeling from Monday’s shocking press conference between Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin — even the folks at Fox News are having trouble finding their bearings.

The anchors and pundits at the network have generally been very pro-Trump, but Monday’s events have thrown a wrench in the works. Even the folks at “Fox & Friends,” who have a notoriously cozy relationship with the President, spoke out after the press conference, where he repeatedly sided with Putin over American intelligence officials over Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.  Read more…

5 most ridiculous moments from that disturbing Trump-Putin press conference

TwitterFacebook

President Donald Trump’s entire performance during his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin was shocking — just ask Anderson Cooper — but a handful of moments stood out above the rest.

1. Forceful removal of protester

Things were crazy even before the two leaders took the stage when a man was very forcibly removed from the gallery, a startling moment of violence that fueled an already tense atmosphere.

The sheet of paper the man was holding reportedly said “nuclear weapons ban treaty,” and he was eventually identified as activist Sam Husseini. Read more…

Vladimir Putin’s lonely World Cup umbrella is ripe for an internet roasting

TwitterFacebook

The World Cup may be over now, but at least it left us with plenty of memories.

Sweet, sweet, viral memories.

Neymar’s divingIt’s coming home. Macron’s ecstatic fist pump. The list goes on.

The final, crowning jewel has to be Vladimir Putin’s umbrella, though.

Putin watched the World Cup final between France and Croatia alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović on Sunday.

After the match was over, they took to the pitch for the ceremony — at which point it started raining.

There was only one man who managed to stay dry, though. Read more…

Facebook gave a Russian firm with Kremlin ties an extension on data collection

TwitterFacebook

Hmmm, the Facebook data collection scandal just got more interesting.

It turns out that one of the 61 companies that got an extension to collect certain kinds of data was a Russian tech firm with ties to the Kremlin.

Before 2015, apps like This Is Your Digital Life — the source of Cambridge Analytica‘s data on 87 million people — could collect information on the friends of their users.

Basically, if you used an app, the developers could see what your friends “liked” even if they weren’t users. Facebook banned the practice in May 2015, but as it revealed to Congress several weeks ago in 700 pages of written responses, it gave some apps an extension.  Read more…
