Volkswagen’s I.D. Vizzion concept is a self-driving, electric dream car

TwitterFacebook

Volkswagen has kicked off its presence at this year’s Geneva Motor Show with an electric, self-driving vehicle that’s more like a lounge on wheels than an actual car.

The atrociously named I.D. Vizzion has 665 kilometers (413 miles) of range and an incredibly sparse interior — think Tesla Model 3 but without a steering wheel or pedals.

The car will have an all-wheel drive system with dual electric motors and an output of 225 kW. It will have a huge, lithium-ion 111 kWh battery pack (for comparison, the Tesla Model X’s largest battery pack is 85 kWh).  Read more…

Volkswagen’s latest I.D. concept EV is a stunner self-driving sport sedan

Volkswagen has revealed its latest I.D. concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland: The I.D. Vizzion, which is a lot less sleepy than all those ‘Zs’ might suggest. The Vizzion is by far my favorite of the I.D. line in terms of pure design, with sporty lines on a roomy but sleek sedan that packs all-wheel pure electric drive, an estimated range of around 413 miles… Read More

Toyota took advantage of CES 2018 to signal a major shift in its business, becoming what company president Akio Toyoda termed a “mobility service company” during his keynote presentation. CTRL+T podcast: As long as it tastes like chicken, folds my clothes for cheap and doesn’t run me over

Wait, what? Yeah, this week a company called SuperMeat announced that it raised $3 million to create chicken in a lab. It requires real chicken cells, Petrie dishes probably and some patience. The benefits for fake (fake real?) chicken are numerous, not the least of which it’s better for the environment. But we wonder how it will taste. Like chicken? Like fake chicken? In the lead-up to… Read More

The timeless VW Beetle is about to step into the future.

Volkswagen is considering plans for an electric Beetle, according to VW’s chairman Herbert Diess.

Speaking to Autocar, Diess said that the company was “actively considering” plans for an electric Beetle as part of a range of zero-emissions cars.

He also added that if an electric successor would be made, it would actually be a throwback to the original rear-wheel drive Beetle.

“If we wanted to do a Beetle, electrically it would be much better than today’s model, much closer to history, because it could be rear-wheel drive,” said Diess. Read more…
