Amazon is putting Alexa in the office

The interface is evolving. What has long been dominated by screens of all shapes and sizes is now being encroached upon by the voice. And while many companies are building voice interfaces — Apple with Siri, Google with Assistant, and Microsoft with Cortana — none are quite as dominant as Amazon has been with Alexa.

TwitterFacebook

Last week, we learned that WeWork invested in a wave pool company dedicated to artificial surfing. This week, WeWork is investing in something slightly closer to home—and for a subset of WeWork’s customers, a competitor.

The $20 billion office-leasing company led a $32 million Series B funding round for The Wing, a women’s only coworking space and social club. The investment is WeWork’s largest to date, Chief Operating Officer Jen Berrent said in a blog post. “We are grateful to have WeWork’s unmatched abilities in our corner as we expand and grow The Wing’s physical footprint and community,” The Wing CEO and co-founder Audrey Gelman said in a statement. “As pioneers in the field of co-working and community building, WeWork shares in our mission to provide women with a space to take flight.” Read more…

Co-working space provider WeWork is looking towards a new generation of entrepreneurs—many of whom probably don’t know what that word means.

The $20 billion startup said Monday that it’s launching a private elementary school inside one its trendy New York office spaces with a pilot class of seven, including a child of founders Adam and Rebekah Neumann, Bloomberg reported.

“In my book, there’s no reason why children in elementary schools can’t be launching their own businesses,” Rebekah Neumann told the news site in an interview. Read more…
