These photos of England’s manager hugging his wife post-World Cup loss will hit you right in the heart

TwitterFacebook

There’s nothing like a hug to comfort you after your team loses a World Cup match.

On Wednesday, after England lost the World Cup semi-final game to Croatia, fans, players, and team manager Gareth Southgate were completely heartbroken.

While we didn’t see Southgate plop down on the field to mourn the loss like some of his players did, photographers did capture an extremely touching post-game moment he shared with his wife Alison in the stands.

The two were seen reuniting after the game, kissing and embracing among empty seats, later joined by family members. The photographs of the emotional moment are just so damn pure — like something straight out of Friday Night Lights. Read more…

The greatest World Cup meme has taken a deeply tragic twist

TwitterFacebook

Turns out football isn’t coming home after all.

For the longest time, after England beat Colombia on penalties and then breezed past Sweden in the World Cup quarter finals, it genuinely looked like it might be.

But then came Wednesday night’s semi-final match against Croatia. Things got off to a good start when England took an early lead, but that only made their ultimate 2-1 defeat — with Croatia’s last goal going in during extra time — all the more painful.

In an instant, everyone’s favourite World Cup meme had taken a turn. Read more…

Book publisher holds nothing back while live tweeting World Cup semi-final

TwitterFacebook

Over the last few weeks, the World Cup has sent everyone into a football frenzy. So much so that other popular leisure activities are starting to feel somewhat left out.

Books, for instance. On Wednesday, the folks at UK book publisher Canongate decided to make their feelings clear when they live-tweeted the England vs. Croatia semi-final.

Needless to say, they really didn’t hold back.

MAYBE YOU ALL LOVE FOOTBALL NOW BUT YOU’LL COME CRAWLING BACK TO BOOKS. YOU’LL BE BACK.

Just some very sad English soccer players on the ground

TwitterFacebook

It is not, unfortunately, coming home.

England lost its World Cup semi-final match to Croatia on Wednesday, thanks to a goal from Mario Mandzukic in the second half of extra time. Now, England will play Belgium in the third-place match, and Croatia will face France in the final on Sunday.

But before all that happens, England must take some time to mourn. Please join them.

Croatia tramples World Cup photographers, then apologizes with kisses

TwitterFacebook

Happy World Cup, everyone!

Team Croatia was (understandably) hyped while celebrating a much-needed goal against England in the semi-finals on Wednesday. In the midst of their victory charge, the team accidentally trampled a few unsuspecting photographers who were just trying to do their jobs.

YouTube TV went down in the middle of the World Cup

TwitterFacebook

Talk about bad timing.

YouTube TV, the live-TV streaming service from YouTube, just went down — right in the middle of the World Cup semi-final England versus Croatia match.

According to the YouTube TV Twitter account, the service is having “streaming issues.”

Hey everyone — sincere apologies for streaming issues with YouTube TV. The timing is horrible but we’re working to be up and running again ASAP!

— YouTube TV (@YouTubeTV) July 11, 2018

DownDetector suggests that those issues are limited to the United States. In other words, everyone at their desk trying to secretly watch the game is SOL.  Read more…

England fan gets soccer player’s face tattooed on his chest after making Twitter promise

TwitterFacebook

People’s passion for things like the World Cup comes in many different levels.

On one end of the scale you have the people who don’t usually watch soccer much — the ones who tune in for big tournaments like the World Cup, or who simply get swept up in the excitement only to immediately forget about it all once it’s over with.

At the other end of the scale, meanwhile, is Matt Benton:

If @HarryMaguire93 scores against Sweden, he’s face is getting tattooed on my chest!! #itscominghome #twitterblades #sufc
