Just as Apple gets ready to announce its streaming service, complete with original programming, another tech giant is preparing to bow out.
According to Bloomberg, YouTube is cancelling many of its “Hollywood-quality” shows and plans to pull out of producing most of its original content for its YouTube Premium subscription service. Shows like sci-fi thriller Origin and comedy series Overthinking with Kat & June are said to be among those being cancelled by YouTube.
YouTube is looking to renew at least one of its most popular hit shows, however. The company is currently in negotiations for a third season of it’s The Karate Kid-based TV Series, Cobra Kai. Read more…

In a 50-minute, 2-second mockumentary that included a torrid affair with a flat Earther, a betrayal from a roommate, and a rap that rhymes “NASA” with “I think I’m gonna passa,” the YouTube star announced that no, he doesn’t actually think the Earth is flat.
His much-hyped video— which was promoted as a documentary but turned out to be more of a narrative movie — raised concerns that the older Paul brother had fallen for the conspiracy theory and would spread the lies to his young audience, which is comprised of mostly children. Read more…

On Tuesday, Google unveiled its new video game streaming platform, Google Stadia. The tech behemoth stepping into the fairly new cloud gaming ring is certainly a big deal, but the effects it will have on YouTube’s ecosystem may be just as big.
With the Stadia announcement, Google revealed heavy YouTube integrations with the gaming platform. Cloud gaming services existed long before Google’s gaming platform, but they didn’t have the help of a massively popular video platform — nor did they exist at a time when internet speeds could handle video game streaming.
YouTube users watching a gaming stream will be able to launch right into playing the very game they were viewing thanks to a button which will be embedded on Stadia-based livestreams. While we don’t yet know if users will have to purchase each game a la carte or subscribe to an open library with Stadia, which games get the most play will almost certainly depend on who’s streaming them. Developers already promote games via popular streamers; Stadia could carry that to the next level. Read more…

Having tasted the viral birth highs of 2017, it was only a matter of time before April the giraffe came back to YouTube for another sweet hit of the good stuff.
That’s right, everyone’s favorite cam star is back at it again. According to the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, April gave birth to a healthy male calf at 12:43 p.m. ET on March 16.
A Facebook post announcing the birth neglected to mention that we are all born into suffering.
“Approximately 11:00 am, Jordan entered the barn to check April, who laid with her back end just out of camera view on both camera angles,” reads the post. “Upon Jordan’s entry to the barn, April stood up and revealed that she had in fact been in labor and the calf’s hooves and first 8-10” of leg were emerging!” Read more…
