Gayle King’s explosive interview with R. Kelly aired this week. One particular moment from the interview was captured in a striking photograph, which subsequently went viral. That photograph was taken by Lazarus Jean-Baptiste, King’s makeup artist, who took 800 photos during the interview.
King spoke to Stephen Colbert about what was going through her mind at the moment when R Kelly stood up in the interview and had an outburst.
“I could see him getting more heated, he was upset with me about some of the questions, that’s ok, he was a little irritated, that’s ok,” said King.
“When I see Robert getting really upset and he stands out of his seat, my initial reaction is, oh god please don’t leave, please don’t leave, please don’t leave,” says King. “We’ve seen him storm out of interviews before so I thought he was gonna do that, I was thinking, I’m not done with my questions, what can I do to save this interview?” Read more…
