U.S. State Dept. hosts ‘Family Travel Hacks’ Facebook Live as if that’s a totally fine thing to do right now

In times of crisis, one would hope the U.S. Department of State would know how to respond accordingly. Sadly, not this time.

On Tuesday, rather than showing any compassion for the nearly 2,000 children who have been separated from their parents at the border due to the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, the State Department decided to hold a fun Facebook Live.

The almost 50-minute-long “Family Travel Hacks” Q&A encouraged people to ask about “applying for U.S. passports for kids, document requirements, and tips to make sure your vacation this summer goes smoothly.” Though, predictably, many used the opportunity to share their upset at the fact that families are being separated at the border.
