In recent years, the way work gets done has begun to shift. Our future world is being built by an army of independent consultants and freelancers who allow businesses and employees to enjoy more freedom. Freelancers now make up more than 35% of the American workforce and are responsible for a significant amount of the U.S. GDP.

Blockchain is a unique technology, capable of decentralizing networks and allowing people to connect. This decentralization is likely to spur a wave of disruption through its ability to create distributed digital ledgers that act as transparent and living “records of transactions.” Read more…

How to tactfully tell your boss you’re quitting (to start your own business)

Some tech jobs (and bosses) are easy to leave, but in some circumstances breaking away can be more difficult. Sometimes, it’s not dissatisfaction with the employer that drives an employee away; it’s having sights set on something bigger—like starting a business. 

How do you break the news to a boss (whom you respect and have learned a great deal from) that you’re quitting to start your own innovative company? 

In my role helping startups through the business formation process, I often encounter new business owners in tech and other industries who face this question.

4 lessons ‘Bob’s Burgers’ can teach entrepreneurs

One of the most entrepreneurial TV families also happens to be an animated one. For seven seasons on the series “Bob’s Burgers,” we’ve watched The Belcher family run a restaurant in a small, seaside community. The eatery is named after Bob, the family patriarch and owner, who operates the business alongside his wife Linda and their three children Gene, Tina, and Louise. 

When a small business is depicted on TV, it’s generally done in a quaint and lowkey manner. Details like the daily lack of customers in a clothing shop or employees taking frequent breaks don’t seem to affect the company’s bottom line. Bob’s Burgers, on the other hand, keeps the trials and tribulations of running a storefront in check because the burger joint is practically one of the main characters.  Read more…
