New iPad models, including iPad Mini, and new iPod Touch reportedly on the way

TwitterFacebook

A slew of new Apple products are on the way, if the latest iOS beta is to be believed.

Four new versions of the iPad are referenced in the iOS 12.2 beta, according to developer Steve Troughton-Smith, who made the discovery. The iPads are designated as iPad 11,1 to iPad 11,4 and include two WiFi and two cellular versions.

In theory, iOS 12.2 references four new iPads in WiFi & Cellular variants (perhaps mini, and 9.7″?), all without Face ID, and a (seventh-gen?) iPod touch with no Touch ID nor Face ID pic.twitter.com/xiJN6kmmTe

Troughton-Smith says that the iPad models mentioned in the iOS beta do not match currently released devices. He also explains that the iPads referenced do not have Face ID, leading him to speculate that these may very well be new iPad Minis. Read more…

New iPad mini and entry-level iPad are around the corner

Apple has registered new iPad models in the Eurasian Economic Commission reference database. The Moscow-based commission keeps a product database pretty much like the FCC in the U.S. And it sounds like Apple is about to launch a new iPad mini 5 and an updated entry-level iPad. That database has shown information on new Apple […]

Google was warned of a bug in its Chromecast media streaming stick years ago, but did not fix it. Now, hackers are exploiting the bug — and security researchers say things could get even worse. Save on MacBooks, iPads, Acer laptops, Chromebooks, and more this weekend

TwitterFacebook

The year may be winding down, but the deals certainly aren’t — all the sales on laptops and tablets this weekend prove it.

New Year’s means heading back to work and school, so there are plenty of affordable laptops that are perfect for either. If you need something basic, the Acer Chromebook 14 is $263 and is great for most classrooms. There’s also this 17.3-inch laptop by HP for $490 if work requires a little more than a Chromebook can offer.

But some of the best savings this weekend belong to the high-performance laptops. Anyone looking for a new MacBook Pro can get the Apple MacBook Pro MLH42LL/A for $2099, $700 down from the original $2799 price. But if you or the one you’re shopping for is into gaming, the Acer Predator Triton 700 is $1999 and packs all the power of a desktop into a surprisingly thin laptop. Read more…

A new iPad mini is reportedly on its way, but it may not be what you hoped for

TwitterFacebook

Apple still hasn’t given up on the iPad mini, a new report from China Times claims (via MacRumors) citing sources from Apple’s supply chain.

A new version of the iPad mini, which hasn’t been updated since 2015, should arrive in the first half of 2019. But according to the report, the new iPad mini 5 will be a low-cost device, meaning it probably won’t receive a major upgrade like the iPad Pro did in October.

The iPad mini has been on its deathbed — but not quite dead — for a while now. Apple hasn’t been updating it, but the company CEO Tim Cook mentioned it by name during the October event. This gave me (and other iPad mini fans, if there are any left at this point) some hope that the company might overhaul the product with smaller bezels and Face ID.  Read more…
