Jeff Bezos’s rocket company sent ‘Mannequin Skywalker’ to the edge of space

Blue Origin is back at it again. 

The rocket company — backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos — just announced the completion of its seventh rocket test and landing of its suborbital New Shepard rocket and capsule in Texas on Tuesday. 

And they have the snazzy video to prove it. 

The highly-produced video shows the relatively small, newly-upgraded rocket fly to 322,032 feet above Earth’s surface, delivering the capsule — complete with huge new windows — to space. Both the rocket and the capsule then landed softly back on Earth.  Read more…

Chad Emerson, president and CEO of Downtown Huntsville, Inc., knows that the odds are stacked against the city of Huntsville, Alabama being selected as home of Amazon’s proposed second headquarters — but he takes a page from the city’s space race past when explaining why he believes anything is possible. 

“The rockets and the rocketeers were all based here and that was called a ‘moon shot,'” Emerson told me. “A lot of people questioned whether it was possible or practical. As Amazon’s Hunger Games-esque trial to choose the site of its second North American headquarters drags on, a few cities have emerged as clear favorites.

A new report from Sperling’s Best Places compiles speculation from media outlets, research firms, and brokerages into a definitive ranking of the metropolitan areas most likely to be graced with Amazon’s presence.

Based on that information, Atlanta is the clear leader of the pack, with Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. close behind.
