Steve Wozniak promises to delete his Facebook account in protest

In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica controversy, the #DeleteFacebook movement grows by the day. 

This weekend, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak joined its numbers. Wozniak told USA Today on Sunday that he’s leaving Facebook out of concern for its treatment of data and privacy. 

“Users provide every detail of their life to Facebook and…Facebook makes a lot of advertising money off this,” he said. “The profits are all based on the user’s info, but the users get none of the profits back.”

Wozniak reportedly said he’d rather pay for Facebook than expose his personal information to advertisers, and claimed that Apple’s model is better. “Apple makes its money off of good products, not off of you,” he said.  Read more…

Even Steve Wozniak said he fell victim to a bitcoin scam

Like a growing number of people, Steve Wozniak has been stung by a cryptocurrency scam.

The Apple co-founder told the Economic Times of India that he had seven bitcoins stolen from him via fraud. 

While there’s been plenty of attention on pesky fake Elon Musk cryptocurrency scams, the Woz was swindled by an arguably antiquated tactic: A stolen credit card. 

“The blockchain identifies who has bitcoins… that doesn’t mean there can’t be fraud though,” he told the newspaper. 

“I had seven bitcoins stolen from me through fraud. Somebody bought them from me online through a credit card and they cancelled the credit card payment. It was that easy! And it was from a stolen credit card number so you can never get it back.” Read more…
