George Washington was a lot of things, but having sparkling white teeth and a killer smile was not one of them. In fact, his orthodontic history is almost as famous as his accomplishments.
Having suffered from dental issues for most of his life, he ascended to the presidency with only a single tooth remaining in his mouth. Apparently, he later resorted to lead, gold plates, hippopotamus ivory, and even actual human teeth *gasps* for his dentures. And contrary to popular belief, they were never made of wood.
Of course, he lived during a time when no aesthetic dentists existed, and there were no state-of-the-art tools available to achieve a picture-perfect smile.
