See the Northern Lights shimmer over Michigan in hypnotic time-lapse

It’s that time of year again: the leaves are falling, your breath frosts on the air, and, in some parts of the country, the Northern Lights shimmer in corners of the night sky.

On Tuesday night, a solar storm affected Earth after hot plasma was ejected from the sun, sending highly charged particles toward our planet. These particles interacted with Earth’s protective magnetic field, creating a widespread aurora display across the Northern Hemisphere. 

The above time-lapse was caught on Tuesday night by Michael Beauchamp on the northern shore of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, overlooking Lake Superior.  Read more…
