Silicon Valley’s biggest lobbying group has a new mission: diversity in tech

The movement to diversify the tech industry just got a powerful new supporter. 

The Internet Association — a Washington, D.C.-based lobbying group that represents Google, Facebook, Netflix, Uber, and dozens of other tech companies on public policy issues — is hiring a director of diversity and inclusion. 

One of the job requirements will be ensuring all tech policy initiatives account for diversity, inclusion, and also providing accurate employment data. 

The job listing notes the association’s initiatives on “artificial intelligence, algorithms, privacy, advertising, and other technology specific topics.” The trade group lobbies for those policy issues as well as net neutrality, copyright, trade, and the sharing economy, for example.  Read more…
