Facebook, Google, Twitter – every web service survives by collecting data on its users. They then use this data to improve their business or they sell it to a third party to generate revenue. And as we’ve learned in recent weeks from Facebook, those practices aren’t always ethically sound.

The new customer-friendly European Union law that’s about to go into effect in May will dramatically impact every company’s ability to collect user data and stay afloat. That’s a really good thing for users, but a tricky thing to navigate for business owners.
