Tom Brokaw accused by 2 women of inappropriate behavior

Tom Brokaw, the longtime NBC News anchor, was accused of inappropriate behavior in the 1990s by two female former colleagues, according to a Washington Post report released on Thursday. 

One of them, Linda Vester, was a correspondent in her 20s when the alleged incidents happened. She told the Post he made two inappropriate advances on her. Once, Brokaw tried to forcibly kiss her, she said. 

“I met with Linda Vester on two occasions, both at her request, 23 years ago, because she wanted advice with respect to her career at NBC,” he said in a statement provided by NBC to the Post. “The meetings were brief, cordial and appropriate, and despite Linda’s allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her, at that time or any other.” Read more…

Matt Lauer’s Twitter account vanishes day after sexual harassment allegations

Matt Lauer’s Twitter is gone. 

Just a day after sexual harassment allegations surfaced and led to his ousting from NBC, his account is no longer available on the social network. 

Newsweek reporter Ryan Sit tweeted about the development, showing an error page for Lauer’s former account on the Twitter mobile app.

Matt Lauer releases first public statement after sexual misconduct allegations

Matt Lauer has released a public statement in response to the allegations of sexual misconduct that led to his ouster from NBC News’ Today show

In the statement, read aloud by Lauer’s former co-host, Savannah Guthrie, Lauer apologised for his actions, saying “there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.” 

He also pledged to repair the damage, adding it “will take a lot of time and soul searching” and calling it “my full time job.” 

“The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love,” he said.  Read more…
