Tom Brokaw accused by 2 women of inappropriate behavior

TwitterFacebook

Tom Brokaw, the longtime NBC News anchor, was accused of inappropriate behavior in the 1990s by two female former colleagues, according to a Washington Post report released on Thursday.

One of them, Linda Vester, was a correspondent in her 20s when the alleged incidents happened. She told the Post he made two inappropriate advances on her. Once, Brokaw tried to forcibly kiss her, she said.

“I met with Linda Vester on two occasions, both at her request, 23 years ago, because she wanted advice with respect to her career at NBC,” he said in a statement provided by NBC to the Post. “The meetings were brief, cordial and appropriate, and despite Linda’s allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her, at that time or any other.” Read more…

The #MeToo men are getting their comeback tours. The women they hurt won’t be.

TwitterFacebook

Just months after they were publicly exposed, the men of #MeToo would like to announce that they’ve served their sentences on their time out stools, and are ready to return to the playground.

The list is long. Garrison Keiller, accused of “dozens of offenses” over a period “of years,” plans to bring back two of his radio shows, and public access to his past shows have been reopened. (Oh, and he’s on tour.) Meanwhile, Matt Lauer, who not only harassed women but also allegedly assaulted at least one of them, has reportedly left his Hamptons mansion-cell and is ready to rejoin society — he’s been seen lunching in Manhattan. Mario Batali is supposedly “eyeing his second act” after reportedly abusing multiple women over the years, whether by harassing or physically groping them.  Read more…

Awful men are everywhere on Google’s 2017 ‘Year In Search’

TwitterFacebook

Google has released its annual “Year in Search” feature and the ongoing sexual assault and harassment reckoning is front and center.

Perhaps most surprising was the figure at the top of search results. Globally, Matt Lauer was the most searched person, followed by Meghan Markle, Nadia Toffa, Harvey Weinstein, and Kevin Spacey. (The U.S.-only list isn’t much different, dropping Toffa and adding Michael Flynn to the top five.) Read more…

Bette Midler demands apology from Geraldo Rivera for alleged sexual assault

TwitterFacebook

The #MeToo movement gained a powerful voice today when Bette Midler posted about an accusation of assault she first made back in 1991.

Those were different times, but now, in this moment of cultural reckoning, Midler’s assertion that sexual assault is “not funny” is finally being heard.

In a series of tweets, Midler shared a clip of an interview with Barbara Walters in which she recounted how Geraldo Rivera groped her without her consent when they met for the first time:

Tomorrow is my birthday. I feel like this video was a gift from the universe to me. Geraldo may have apologized for his tweets supporting Matt Lauer, but he has yet to apologize for this. #MeToo pic.twitter.com/TkcolFWfA2

Meredith Vieira once found a bag of sex toys in Matt Lauer’s office and confronted him on air

TwitterFacebook

Now that he’s been fired by NBC News amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment, Matt Lauer’s past work has come under intense scrutiny — and some of it will leave you feeling decidedly icky in light of the new accusations.

From a hypocritical Bill O’Reilly interview to a tone-deaf sexual harassment sketch on Today, Lauer seems to have spent years throwing stones from a very fragile glass house. The latest video to resurface comes courtesy of The Meredith Vieira Show, in which Lauer’s former co-host (who was apparently also the subject of Lauer’s inappropriate remarks, judging by a video from TMZ in which Lauer encourages Vieira to “keep bending over” in front of him) quizzed him on why she once found a bag of sex toys in Lauer’s office closet Read more…

In the statement, read aloud by Lauer’s former co-host, Savannah Guthrie, Lauer apologised for his actions, saying “there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.”

He also pledged to repair the damage, adding it “will take a lot of time and soul searching” and calling it “my full time job.”
