The OnePlus 6T has an official launch date

Fans of OnePlus won’t have to wait much longer for a new phone.

The Chinese manufacturer announced an Oct. 30 event for the official release of the OnePlus 6T, an updated version of the popular OnePlus 6 smartphone.

The event will take place in New York City, kicking off at 11 a.m. Eastern Time. In keeping with its populist marketing, OnePlus is allowing fans to buy tickets to attend the launch.

The OnePlus 6T is said to have an in-display fingerprint sensor. It wouldn’t be the first consumer smartphone to have such a feature — phones from Oppo and Vivo already include it — but the 6T will be the first device aggressively marketed out outside of Asia to have it, a big step for the tech. OnePlus’ new flagship, OnePlus 6, doesn’t have a launch date yet. But now, thanks to a post by the company CEO Pete Lau, we know its key specs — and they’re stellar. 

In the post, published Tuesday, Lau revealed that the OnePlus 6 will have a Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

He also hinted at 4K video recording (hardly surprising as the OnePlus 5T already has that feature) and a “less than a 1/1000 percent likelihood of your phone freezing,” which I guess simply means thorough testing for stability.  Read more…
