Cheap console alert: The PlayStation Classic is on sale again — now for just $39.99

TwitterFacebook

Last week, we saw the PlayStation Classic go on sale for $40.75 on Amazon. While it was a low price, it included a shipping fee of over $5, so it bumped the overall price to over $46. However, we found the PS Classic for the low, low price of $39.99 at Walmart with free shipping to your home or in-store — if you live near a brick-and-mortar location.

Normally retailing for $99.99, the PlayStation Classic is the mini version of one of the most iconic home consoles in video game history. In fact, it’s about 45% smaller than the original console, which was released 24 years ago in 1995.

Did you miss out on the PlayStation Classic when it was on sale a few weeks ago for $39.99 — and later for $49.99?

It was the lowest price we’d ever seem on the mini console and it was a deal too good to pass up. But don’t worry, the PlayStation Classic is back on sale again for just $40.75, or $59.24 off its list price on Amazon.

While this isn’t the lowest price on the PlayStation Classic, it’s damn near close to it. This is the mini console Sony released to compete with the Nintendo Classic Edition and the SNES Classic Edition, but with an eye to capture fans of the original PlayStation, which came out in 1995.  Read more…

Sony’s PlayStation Classic uses an open-source emulator to play its games

The worm has turned, it seems. Emulators, which let people run old console games on their computers, were once the scourge of the gaming industry. Now Sony is using one of the very pieces of software the industry decried as the basis for its PlayStation Classic retro console.
