Buy an Echo Dot and get a free smart plug

We know that the Amazon Echo has the ability to control smart home features, but what good does that do if you don’t have any smart home devices?

Right now, when you buy a third generation Echo Dot you can either get an Amazon Smart Plug for free or a Sengled smart bulb kit for $20 (the full-priced kit costs $52).

Add voice control to any outlet in your home with the Echo Dot and Amazon Smart Plug — use the device to schedule lights, fans, and appliances to turn on and off automatically. Though the smart plug connects with Alexa, you don’t need to be within speaking range to control it. You can access the plug from anywhere with the Alexa app, meaning you can control your plugged-in devices remotely while you’re away. Read more…

Philips Hue brings the party outside with the Outdoor Lightstrip

TwitterFacebook

Philips Hue‘s Outdoor Lightstrip is now officially official (it leaked last month), but unfortunately, it won’t be landing in time for summer BBQs and backyard parties.

The Outdoor Lightstrip will land in October, but pre-orders start on Aug. 20. The smaller 7-foot strip costs $89.99, and the larger 16-foot strip is $159.99. With an October launch, you’ll likely be able to light your pathways in time for Halloween. The new lightstrip will be available direct from Philips Hue, as well as other retailers.

Like the rest of the outside line by Philips Hue, weatherproofing is critical. The Outdoor Lightstrip is fully waterproof — from the product itself to its AC adapter. You can even bury the power adapter and cable underground for a sleek look.  Read more…

Levitating decor items like plant holders and Bluetooth speakers are the thing to have right now — but there’s one other floating gadget on the market that really shines (if you catch our drift). Flyte takes the common light bulb and merges it with magnetic levitation, allowing it to hover and rotate above its platform for hours. Feel the electromagnets lock it into place, take your hands away, and voilà: gravity defying light. Read more…
