Meredith Corporation is buying Time Inc for $2.8bn (£2.1bn)—and it has some controversial financial backers: the conservative billionaire Koch brothers.

Meredith, which already publishes magazines including Parents, Shape and Better Homes & Gardens, said Charles and David Koch helped fund the deal to acquire Time Inc., the mag’s publisher, with $650 million in preferred equity. Time Inc. includes a variety of major magazine titles including Time, Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly, People, Fortune, and many others.

All the times Donald Trump has gotten upset about Time’s ‘person of the year’

TwitterFacebook

The media, Kristen Stewarts love life, and Times magazine’s person of the year: These are just a few of the things that get Donald Trump fired up.

Trump has once again put himself into the middle of one a particularly inane controversy after he claimed that Time called and tried to get him to do an interview in exchange for being named “Person of the Year,” which the magazine bestows on a different person/concept/metaphor each year.

Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

Trump says he turned down Time’s ‘Person of the Year,’ and no one’s buying it

TwitterFacebook

Unless you repressed all memories of 2016 (and who could blame you), you’ll remember that Time named Donald Trump “Person of the Year.” Now, the president is claiming that the magazine asked him again this year but, like, urgh who can even be bothered?

In a tweet Friday, the president took time from his busy schedule of getting absolutely nothing from his agenda done to make a bold claim about rejecting the magazine’s honor for 2017.

Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
