Apple CEO Tim Cook to Congress: It’s time to stand up for the right to privacy

TwitterFacebook

Apple CEO Tim Cook is on a crusade to make tech companies care more about their users’ privacy.

In an op-ed for Time Magazine, Cook once again called for a sweeping change within the tech industry and how companies handle online data. The Apple CEO is pushing Congress and the Federal Trade Commission to step up and make the moves necessary to protect people’s privacy.

“In 2019, it’s time to stand up for the right to privacy—yours, mine, all of ours,” writes Cook. “Consumers shouldn’t have to tolerate another year of companies irresponsibly amassing huge user profiles, data breaches that seem out of control and the vanishing ability to control our own digital lives.” Read more…

‘Time’ slams Trump’s family separation policy in a cover for the ages

The debate over the Trump administration’s immigration policy is still simmering, and the blowback continues to hit Trump — this time in the form of yet another Time magazine cover

The new cover combines a photo of the president with the now-iconic image taken by Getty Images’ John Moore of a little girl sobbing while her mother is searched by border agents, something of a symbol of the pushback against the separation of children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Ariana Grande talked to ‘Time’ magazine about the Manchester Arena attack

TwitterFacebook

It’s almost a year since the Manchester Arena Attack, and Ariana Grande spoke to Time magazine about the experience.

She talked to journalist Sam Lansky about organising the benefit concert One Love Manchester following the attack. Apparently she had called her manager, Scooter Braun, to say: “If I don’t do something, these people died in vain.”

“There are so many people who have suffered such loss and pain,” she told Time. “The processing part is going to take forever.”

Grande was reluctant to talk too much about the attack itself in the interview.  Read more…

Women running for political office dominate ‘Time’ magazine cover

TwitterFacebook

It’s not just a few pink pussyhats, a handful of marchers, #MeToo posts, or women launching political campaigns — a huge surge of women is getting involved in politics. A movement is here.

After the one-year anniversary of the inaugural Women’s March on Washington, Time magazine’s cover this week features 48 of the record-breaking number of women running for political office in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election, whether for governor, Congress, state legislature, or school board.

One year ago, millions of women marched in pink hats. Today, there are more women running for office than ever before. Call it a revolution, call it payback, or call it the Pink Wave https://t.co/78YlUtfD87 pic.twitter.com/sW0P7sS9OE

Sophie Turner defends Taylor Swift’s ‘Time’ cover and is here to support all ‘The Silence Breakers’

TwitterFacebook

When Time unveiled its person of the year, “The Silence Breakers,” yesterday, it caused quite the stir. Much of that was because of one particular person on the front cover — Taylor Swift.

The superstar received some blowback from appearing on the magazine cover, even after she took the stand earlier this year to testify against a DJ who was later found guilty of groping her. Many felt as if she doesn’t deserve to be standing next to the group of other women Time highlighted, claiming Swift doesn’t openly speak about important issues unless she is directly affected.

Team behind Time’s Person of the Year issue was all women

TwitterFacebook

The “Silence Breakers” who spoke out about sexual assault and harassment in show business, media, and the workplace, made it onto the cover and into the pages of Time’s annual Person of the Year issue and it was a group of women who made the special issue possible.

Time national correspondent Charlotte Alter pointed out after Wednesday’s reveal of the most influential person, or in this case widespread group of people, that the magazine came together with the help of many women.

From the idea to highlight the #MeToo movement and the people who spoke out about abuse to the story reporting and writing to the fact-checking — it was all womenVideo and photo designs were also put together by women.  Read more…
