Dr. Yuri Burstyn of Helpful Vancouver Vet demonstrates the proper way to handle a cat. According to Burstyn these techniques are not only comfortable for the cat, but also safer for humans. When a cat is secure and comfortable, it is less likely to scratch and try to free itself. 

He goes over all steps of cat handling: the initial introduction, the correct stroking technique, and different ways of picking up felines. The key is to make the kitty feel supported so it doesn’t try to latch out and dig its claws into something, like your face.
