What the most successful people do, according to this meme

TwitterFacebook

It seems like everyone on Twitter has an opinion about what makes a person successful.

Last week, Twitter user @APompliano tweeted a list of things he believes “the most successful people” do. It’s a pretty vague bunch of descriptors —  successful people “have laser focus” and “build incredible teams,” he claims.

Apparently, successful people and the protagonists of Disney movies have something in common: They “believe in themselves.” Sure.

The most successful people I’ve met:

1. Read constantly
2. Workout daily
3. Are innately curious
4. Have laser focus
5. Believe in themselves
6. Build incredible teams
7. Admit they know very little
8. Constantly work to improve
9. Demand excellence in everything they do

Advertising Content from Principles

You’ve mastered the fundamentals at your job: You close the deal, you file on time, you never heat fish in the office microwave. You like your work, and you’re hungry to keep climbing the ladder. Or maybe you’re sick of your job: You feel uninspired, no one takes you seriously, someone’s always heating fish in the office microwave. Whether you’re feeling the former or the latter, at work or just in life generally, you’re looking forward toward greater things, right? But how do you get there?

Founder of Bridgewater Associates, billionaire investor, and philanthropist Ray Dalio knows a thing or two about success, and he has some sage advice for you. His book Principles synthesizes a lifetime’s worth of hard work, trial and error, and business experience into a set of principles that Dalio believes led him to success in life and business — and which he argues will help anyone else looking to succeed on his or her own terms. He’s also just released a 30-minute, 8-part animated mini-series that hits all the key ideas in the book in an easy-to-digest form. Read more…

J.K. Rowling just tweeted the sweetest reply to a struggling writer

TwitterFacebook

J.K. Rowling may have a reputation as something of a Twitter badass, but she has a softer side too.

On Sunday, a 23-year-old aspiring writer and Harry Potter fan took to Twitter to share a feeling all aspiring writers will know well: frustration.

I want to write like @jk_rowling or @StephenKing but it’s too hard for me. I’m demotivated. I’ll never finish my bookpic.twitter.com/5drO1Ki2Kd

Despite the fact that Rowling’s feed must be absolutely inundated with tweets, though — not to mention the fact she’s almost certainly busy writing herself — she still found the time to respond. Read more…
