New York is freaking out over a pulsing ‘blue light’ in the sky and no, it’s not aliens

TwitterFacebook

A pulsing bright blue light illuminating the sky across Queens, New York on Thursday night had everyone thinking one thing.

But before you even start, it’s not aliens.

Awestruck folks shared footage on Twitter of the strangely glimmering turquoise light, equally as baffled as each other.

Similar to the 2015 freak-out of Los Angeles, when a ‘blue light’ streaked across the night sky, folks on Twitter declared it one of two things: aliens or something worth calling Ghostbusters for.

This creepy looking ‘alien’ is actually a human being

The ‘Atacama Skeleton’ is only 6 inches tall with a bone maturity of a 6-year-old. This has led scientists to believe that ‘Ata’ was a fetus with a rapid bone growth mutation. Some skeptics still think she might be a galactic visitor though.  Read more…

We asked astronauts if they think aliens exist. Here’s what they said

TwitterFacebook

Jeff Hoffman has floated in the vacuum of space. He’s looked down at our planet from above, seen the whorls of clouds, the vast oceans, and the crowded cities as webs of light.

Over five missions — including the first to the Hubble Space Telescope — Hoffman has spent 1,211 hours of his life in space.

“I believe there is life elsewhere in the universe,” Hoffman said in an  intervew.

Fewer than 600 of the nearly 108 billion people who’ve existed on this planet have seen it from orbit. That rare experience, along with their advanced science degrees, makes astronauts seem uniquely qualified to answer the question: Are we alone in the universe?  Read more…

Oh boy, what are these ghostly lights flying over Milwaukee?

TwitterFacebook

Ghost hunters, please contact us.

FOX 6 newscasters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, struggled to identify a group of mysterious white lights floating in their broadcast’s sky view Tuesday morning. Soon after, the glowing, ghostly images enthralled thousands of people on Reddit — perhaps the least surprising turn of events in modern history.

So, what were those lights? Aliens? Ghosts? Cute little sky tadpoles? None of the above, according to local reporters who drove to check it out. In fact, they were seagulls, whose outlines appeared blurred due to the camera’s shutter speed. (Check out this daylight video from the ground — they’re much clearer.) Read more…

Finding alien life probably won’t drive us into panic and chaos

TwitterFacebook

On a humid summer’s day in 1996, President Bill Clinton appeared on the South Lawn of The White House and announced that NASA had discovered what looked to be fossilized bacteria on a Martian meteorite.

It was unprecedented for a President to publicly address potential evidence of alien life — and on television. But the American public didn’t react to the unexpected announcement with panic, fear, or social upheaval.

“You didn’t see droves of people abandoning their religion, spouses, or jobs,” said Michael Varnum, an assistant professor of psychology at Arizona State University, in an interview. Read more…

Here’s how NASA is preparing the largest telescope ever built for space

Watch NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope getting prepared for its 2019 launch. The telescope has now successfully passed all the necessary tests which ensured that it’s going to withstand the “rigors of launch” as well as the extremely cold temperature…

That alien megastructure surrounding a star? Yeah, it’s probably just dust

TwitterFacebook

Let’s just call it the alien megastructure that wasn’t.

More than 100 researchers have released a study showing that the mysterious star KIC 8462852, better known as Tabby’s Star, is almost certainly not surrounded by a structure built by a technologically advanced alien civilization.

In reality, the star’s odd dimming and brightening quality has a far more natural explanation.

“Dust is most likely the reason why the star’s light appears to dim and brighten,” astronomer Tabetha Boyajian, who the star is nicknamed for, explained in a statement about the study published in the The Astrophysical Journal LettersRead more…
