‘Flying preacher’ charms us all with his over-the-top entrance

This guy really knows how to make an entrance.

In a video shared on Facebook by ZaKnedria LeUnshae Webb on Sunday, the head pastor of the Brown Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi, Bartholomew Orr can be seen “flying” onto the stage of his church:

He’s since gone viral and been dubbed the “flying preacher” after he delivered part of his sermon in mid-air. Of course, Orr isn’t actually flying — he’s very clearly hooked up to a line. But, his descent onto the stage while talking about Jesus Christ’s return certainly gives it a dramatic edge.

Orr also recorded and shared a video on Brown Missionary Baptist Church’s Facebook page on Monday, thanking everyone for watching his slightly unorthodox Sunday sermon. He also added that the line he rode to his podium was actually in place for the Church’s annual Christmas pageant, and it was donated by a number of the church’s sponsors.  Read more…

Church puts their nativity scene in a cage to protest Trump’s immigration policies

Traditionally, the nativity scene is pastoral — meant to inspire feelings of joy, not gut-wrenching horror. 

No wonder, then, that the nativity scene recently posted outside of Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis has inspired such a reaction. The Reverend Canon Lee Curtis had the statues of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph placed in a cage and displayed on the church’s front lawn to symbolize the families currently detained indefinitely at the border.

“The stark reality is many families have experienced or are experiencing this,” Curtis told Mashable.  Read more…

People wondered what was up with this dirty-sounding church sign

We guess it’s one way to get people to pay attention to a religious message.

An Australian church has raised eyebrows for its dirty-sounding sign, which reads “FORGIVENESS IS SWALLOWING WHEN YOU’D RATHER SPIT.” Nope, not making it up. 

Here is the sign, as it was displayed in front of the Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit in Surfers Paradise, photographed by local politician John-Paul Langbroek.
