Amazon launches in Australia for real, but not everyone’s impressed with those prices

TwitterFacebook

Following a false start last week, Amazon’s Australian store launched on Tuesday — at last.

The arrival of the internet retail giant has received plenty of media coverage in the lead up, with much of the focus on how Amazon would smash local bricks and mortar competition through better pricing and service.

So far though, the launch pricing of products on Amazon hasn’t impressed everyone. Many products are no cheaper than Australian stores, although there are smatterings of good — and terrible — deals to be had.

OMG OMG OMG OMG AMAZON HAS LAUNCHED IN AUSTRALIA…

Checks prices….

Cyber Monday sales break records yet again—including $1 billion spent via smartphones

TwitterFacebook

It seems Black Friday’s record online sales haven’t managed to steal Cyber Monday’s thunder.

The sales holiday was on track to beat last year’s total revenue by nearly 17 percent as of Monday night, according to Adobe. If the final hours of the day hold the same pace, sales will have grown at nearly exactly the same rate as the online portion of the retail industry’s Black Friday haul.

Shoppers spent around $3.4 billion in the first half of the day, and sales remained on track to match Adobe’s forecasted total of $6.6 billion as of 10 p.m. eastern time on Monday. For comparison, Black Friday’s total online sales were pegged at around $5 billion. Read more…

Here’s how to make sure you’re getting the best deals on Cyber Monday

TwitterFacebook

After yet another record-breaking Black Friday online, retailers are looking to keep the momentum going this week with a flurry of new Cyber Monday deals.

The notion of an e-commerce counterpart to the post-Thanksgiving shopping spree has become somewhat antiquated at a time when more consumers than ever now do their shopping online anyway.

Nevertheless, stores will take whatever excuse they can get to drum up a shopping holiday. And with businesses from small online boutiques to big-box stores looking to get a piece of the action, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Read more…
