Samsung confirms slow Galaxy S9 sales in quarterly report

Samsung’s latest quarterly earnings confirm what analysts were expecting: the Galaxy S9’s sales aren’t so hot.
In Samsung’s just released Q2 report, the South Korean electronics conglomerate missed the mark on Galaxy S9 sales targets. The smartphone, which was released at the end of last quarter, accounts for a major chunk of Samsung’s 4 percent year on year drop in revenue.
Earlier this month, analysts warned that Samsung’s Galaxy S9 smartphone could be the worst selling Galaxy S series phone since the release of the Galaxy S3 in 2012. Analysts were estimating that the smartphone giant only shipped around 31 million Galaxy S9 phones since its release in March. Read more…

The Samsung Galaxy S9 may not a be hit after all, despite being the company’s most polished and capable smartphone to date.
Analysts are estimating Samsung shipped only 31 million Galaxy S9 smartphones since it launched in March, making it the company’s lowest-selling phone since the Galaxy S III.
By comparison, the Galaxy S7 was Samsung’s best-selling smartphone ever. It launched in 2016 and shipped about 50 million units. The Galaxy S7 was also the first phone in company history Samsung released with two different display sizes — similar to the the strategy Apple used in 2014 with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Read more…

Before Samsung’s Galaxy S9 takes its big bow on Feb. 25, there’s one, (presumably) last leaky look at the hinted-at-but-technically-unannounced smartphone and its larger S9+ sibling.
Photos posted to what looks like a recently created Instagram account offer views of each phone’s startup, home, main menu, and lock screens, as well as the devices themselves. It’s certainly possible these are doctored images — your “grain of salt” alert — but it’s much more likely you’re seeing the real deal here.

Samsung announced earlier this week that it’s holding a special media event on Feb. 25. in Barcelona, where it’s widely believed that the South Korean electronics giant will reveal its new flagship phones: the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
