How many times do people get asked the uncomfortable question: “No, but where are you really from?” because of their ethnicity? 

It still happens quite a lot, despite it being a form of “microaggression,” according to some social scientists

A similar incident just occurred to London Mayor Sadiq Khan during his historic walk across the border between India and Pakistan. 

BBC reporter Karl Mercer awkwardly asked him whether the symbolic visit felt “like coming home.”

Google just launched a new version of Android for low-budget phones

Google wants to make sure everyone can access Android, even those who can’t afford fancy phones. 

The company announced today that Android Oreo (Go Edition) will be launching alongside Android 8.1. The new operating system is optimized for entry-level smartphones — small, often prepaid phones like the Samsung Galaxy J3, the Motorola MOTO G, or Apple’s iPhone SE, which can sell for less than $400. 

There are currently more Android users in India than there are in the U.S., according to Google, and the company has its sights set on the “billions more” who don’t yet have access.  Read more…

India’s prime minister is the second most-tweeted world leader after Trump

Narendra Modi is killing it on Twitter.

Not only does the Indian prime minister have 37.5 million followers, he’s also the most tweeted about world leader in the world — after Trump of course.

Modi is also the most followed head of state across the Asia-Pacific region by far, with Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo coming in second with 9.1 million followers, according to a press release from Twitter.

What does it take to amass such a huge following? 

For one, the Prime Minister tweets almost every other day, and he’s not afraid of sending out numerous tweets on the same day. On Dec. 1 for example, he sent out a grand total of eight tweets. Read more…
