France takes legal action against Apple and Google for their app stores

France’s Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire criticized Apple and Google for the way they run the App Store and Play Store. According to him, Google and Apple have too much power against app developers. The iTunes LP format is on its last legs.

Apple has announced that it will no longer accept new LP submissions to the iTunes store after March 2018, in an email to music industry workers obtained by Metro.

An LP is an interactive album format that allows users to view multimedia elements as they play music. It was often used to bundle extra features into purchased content.

“Apple will no longer accept new submissions of iTunes LPs after March 2018,” the email reportedly reads.”Existing LPs will be deprecated from the store during the remainder of 2018. The first-generation Apple TV was released more than 11 years ago and starting this May, Apple’s iTunes Store will no longer work on the device, along with other older computers.

In a recent Apple support post, the tech company announced that the online store to purchase music, videos, TV shows, movies, and apps won’t be accessible on first-generation Apple TVs and Windows XP and Vista PCs starting May 25.

Apple has a history of choosing cash over startups

Apple has more cash than any other tech company on the planet. Yet, that hasn’t translated into spending on acquisitions. Over the past five years, Apple has spent the least on M&A out of all the “Big Five” most valuable U.S. tech companies. That’s despite the fact that it is estimated to have more than $260 billion in cash and cash equivalents. So, is it buying… Read More

Drake, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Moana’ top Apple’s 2017 most downloaded list

Over the past several years, tech year-end lists have become as much of an annual tradition as Twilight Zone marathons and going to a bar to get away from the family on Christmas Eve. Apple dropped its big list today and surprise, there aren’t really too many surprises here — though it’s a useful reminder that, at least so far as entertainment is concerned, 2017 wasn’t… Read More
