Panera Bread exposed millions of customer records because LOL security

Here’s your daily reminder there’s no such thing as true security.

Panera Bread, the beloved St. Louis-based bakery chain, is the latest company to show how much it doesn’t care about protecting customer data.

The food chain’s website reportedly left its customers’ personal data completely exposed for anyone to scoop up. 

Data including “names, email and physical addresses, birthdays and the last four digits of the customer’s credit card number” were leaked online according to cybersecurity expert Brian Krebs, who helped publicize the news. Read more…

Facebook and Google will stop at nothing to squash leaks

Google and Facebook aren’t just spying on their users. 

The two tech behemoths are known for all the creepy ways they pry into the lives of those using their products, but it’s an entirely different group of people who today will be looking over their collective shoulders: their employees. 

A March 16 story by The Guardian‘s Olivia Solon makes this clear, describing the great lengths to which Facebook and Google will go in order to find and punish any worker who dares to leak information to the press — or just step out of line in any way, generally.  Read more…
