TwitterFacebook

It’s been QUITE the year for the royal family. There’s been no end of birthdays, weddings, engagements, anniversaries, and all kinds of other festivities.

Here are 17 major moments that defined one helluva year for the royals.

1. Princess Diana’s letters confirmed what we already knew

This year began with a bit of a blast from the past: a revelation from Princess Diana’s letters, written when Prince Harry was just a boy. The letters—sent to a former Buckingham Palace steward—revealed that Prince Harry was  “constantly in trouble at school,” which is not remotely surprising. Read more…

Princes Harry and William held a house party for the ‘Star Wars’ cast and it sounded epic

TwitterFacebook

Ain’t no party like a Star Wars party — especially when the party in question happens to be hosted by royalty.

In the clip above, the cast of The Last Jedi described to Graham Norton how Princes William and Harry hosted an after-party for the cast at none other than Kensington Palace.

Apparently John Boyega and Gwendoline Christie tried to pose for some photos in a room with a big red throne, but were quickly dragged away.

The best part of the whole story? Mark Hamill’s impression of William and Harry, which can only be described as on-point. Read more…

‘Star Wars’ cast confirm Princes William and Harry had cameos in ‘The Last Jedi’

TwitterFacebook

Ever since the two Princes visited the Star Wars set for that glorious, Chewbacca-infused photoshoot, there have been rumours flying around that William and Harry are actually in The Last Jedi.

Well, we now have even more evidence.

In a recent junket with some of the Star Wars cast, the Radio Times tried to get to the bottom of the intergalactic royal mystery.

Here’s the video in full:

So judging by Kelly Marie Tran and Benicio del Toro’s responses, it seems pretty clear that they at least shot a scene — the question is whether or not it made the final cut (something John Boyega hinted may not have happened a couple of months back, although he may have purposefully been vague to maintain the mystery). BB-8 bows to Princes William and Harry, and all they did was laugh at him

BB-8, well-mannered, respectful astromech droid, knows the protocol of a royal greeting when such an occasion arises.

Pity two certain princes didn’t play ball.

At the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday night, Princes Harry and William were in attendance as the event was hosted in aid of The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

With all the attention on the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, our favourite prince-future-king George must have felt a bit lonely.

But fear not, because his wonderful dad William has passed a special request during his trip to Finland.

The Duke of Cambridge met Father Christmas and delivered a handwritten note by the 4-year-old.

Dear Prince William, this is why anonymity online is important

TwitterFacebook

In unveiling a “national action plan” to tackle cyberbullying, Prince William reflected on the need to take responsibility for our actions online, calling anonymity online “really, really dangerous.”

The debate around anonymity is as old as the internet — we could even call it its original sin — and is still the underlining, problematic elephant in the room when we talk about trolls, fake news, cyberbullying, alt-right activism, and so on.

On the one hand, the lack of a real link between your name and your online identity encourages participation, and fosters imagination and the freedom that comes with it.  Read more…

Prince William says online anonymity is ‘really, really dangerous’ in deeply moving video

TwitterFacebook

Prince William has unveiled a “national action plan” to tackle cyberbullying in a powerfully moving video. In the video, Prince William described online anonymity as “really, really dangerous” after talking to two campaigners whose lives have been impacted by online bullying.

The Duke of Cambridge spoke to Lucy Alexander, whose son Felix died by suicide after experiencing cyberbullying, and Chloe Hine, a suicide attempt survivor who endured cyberbullying—both of whom have helped the prince develop the action plan.

“The human tragedy of what we’re talking about here isn’t just about companies,” said the prince. “It’s actually real lives that get affected.” Read more…
