Facebook Messenger went down across the globe earlier today, leaving countless IMs as “read” with no response, but somehow the world kept turning.

Frazzled users started complaining of the outage at around 6 a.m. Eastern Time, according to popular status reporting site Outage Report. The issues appeared to affect the East Coast of the US, Europe, and southeast Asia, peaking at about 8 a.m.
Facebook acknowledged the issue on its developers site after about an hour at 7:06 a.m. Eastern Time, posting a message stating that the outage was being investigated by a team working to find a solution to the problem.
