Netflix dials up the teen angst for ‘The End of the F***ing World’

Meet James, a 17-year-old psychopath, and Alyssa, the girl he’s decided to murder. James (Alex Lawther) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden) start dating and then run away from their seemingly mundane lives, beginning what might not be the healthiest relationship and journey…

That morbid scenario and actual worst-nightmare is the premise of Netflix’s upcoming The End of the F***ing World, based on the graphic novels by Charles S. Forsman.

Though billed as Netflix original, the series originally aired in the U.K. on Channel 4 (like Black Mirror, which now solely lives on Netflix). The stars are mostly unknowns for the worldwide Netflix audience, with the exception of Lawther, who had a significant role in The Imitation Game and horrified us in Black Mirror‘s “Shut Up and Dance.” And yes, that’s Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan) from Game of Thrones.
