Would you have liked Bandersnatch better if it had been a ‘normal’ Black Mirror episode, rather than the groundbreaking Choose Your Own Adventure feat that it is? Did making all those decisions stress you out?

Well, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker doesn’t care about that. At all.

In a Q&A with HuffPost, Brooker gave a rather brutal response to those who didn’t like the fact that watching Bandersnatch involves making decisions on behalf of the main character, Stefan.

“There were points where in working stuff out, it got like trying to do a Rubik’s cube in your head, and I had to literally get up from my desk and kind of walk around the house holding my head.”

This is a choose-your-own-adventure review of the brand new choose-your-own-adventure Netflix special, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

(Important spoiler-free caveat: Netflix hasn’t yet cracked the code of how to show this interactive episode to its best advantage on actual TV boxes, not even the top-of-the-line Apple TV 4K. You’ll probably end up watching on a laptop, tablet or phone. Which is odd, because all you need to play is go left, go right and…OK — things any TV remote can do.)  Read more…
