Alec Baldwin returns to ‘Saturday Night Live’ for a star-studded Trump cold open

TwitterFacebook

Alec Baldwin keeps coming back to Saturday Night Live for Donald Trump sketches, even though  each new one feels like another step toward the death of comedy.

The latest milking of Baldwin’s Trump schtick is an Evita-inspired riff on the G-20 summit, complete with surprise appearances from Ben Stiller, as Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen; Kate McKinnon, as bat-Rudy Giuliani; Beck Bennett, as Vladimir Putin; and Fred Armisen, as Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman.

All you really need to know about this sketch: there are jokes about the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a heinous act that everyone outside of Trumpworld — including U.S. intelligence agencies — believes was masterminded by Salman. Good times, SNL. Read more…

Saturday Night Live went big with this week’s Donald Trump-skewering cold open.

It’s like a greatest hits showcase for all the “characters” in IRL Trump’s orbit. Scarlett Johansson and Jimmy Fallon do their Ivanka and Jared schtick. Ben Stiller is back as beleaguered lawyer Michael Cohen. Kate McKinnon debuts a new look in Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s latest lamb for the slau— er, lawyer.

‘Saturday Night Live’ assures us President Trump is in peak physical condition in briefing room cold open

One of the easiest ways for Saturday Night Live to cover a week of news out of the Oval Office – when you don’t have Alec Baldwin at your disposal – is to toss Aidy Bryant as Sarah Huckabee Sanders in front of the White House Press Briefing podium.

On a day that marks one year in office for President Trump, the anniversary of Women’s Marches across the country, and the first time the government has shut down since 2013, Bryant had a lot on her hands.

“I’d like to wish everybody a happy Women’s March – a million women out there to celebrate the President’s first kick-ass year in office,” Bryant as Sanders opens, echoing President Trump’s real life tweet praising today’s demonstrations and congratulating himself for low unemployment among women.
Bryant runs over a few “Schumer Shutdown” talking points before giving the stage to Dr. Ronny Jackson (Beck Bennett) to deliver the president’s “unbiased, 100% accurate health assessment,” rife with words like “young,” “svelte,” and “gorgeous,” which, of course, are unbiased and one-hundred percent accurate.
